Many changes occur with the passage of time. Since 5770 (2010), much has changed in Montgomery County, Maryland; the past is left to fade away. Yet when someone profoundly touches your life, you will never forget them.
Shlucha Mrs. Zlata Geisinsky (née Dubrawsky) OBM was both a mentor and a true friend to thousands who adored her. Fifteen years after her untimely passing, the pain and sense of personal loss are still deeply felt.
Zlata was admired across every segment of the Greater Washington Jewish community, enriching countless lives with her kindness, wisdom, and remarkable community accomplishments.
Each year, around the time of her yahrzeit, a full concert is held in tribute to Zlata OBM. It has become the most anticipated Jewish music event in Greater Washington.
This year’s concert featured the world-renowned Chazan Yaakov Lemmer, accompanied by Dr. Yehudah Mond on keyboard.
The program concluded with an award-winning video of the ‘Smiling Soldiers Project,’ which highlights the extraordinary character of goodwill of the IDF. The project is the brainchild of acclaimed photographer Mendel Geisinsky.
Guests also enjoyed an elaborate buffet before the musical program. Chazan Lemmer’s performance was masterfully sensational, filling the hall with inspiration and great spirit.
Opening tributes were delivered by Rabbi Bentzion Geisinsky, Rabbi Sender Geisinsky, Mrs. Rochel Charytan (Zlata’s daughter), and Zlata’s granddaughter, Zlata Geisinsky, who carries the name of her very special Bubby with pride.
Zlata OBM was the kind of person who would not have wanted to be remembered with sadness. The concert is meant to perpetuate her memory and her goals, celebrating the life she lived so fully. And that it did. It is no exaggeration to say that the unmistakable spirit of her presence could be felt in the room. With heartfelt tefillos, all who were gathered prayed that next year, we merit to witness her presence in body and soul -with the coming of Moshiach.
