This month marks the ninth yahrtzeit of shlucha Mrs. Chaya Zlata Geisinsky ob”m (nee Dubrowsky).
Each year around the time of her yahrzeit, the community she served, pays tribute to her memory and celebrates her life with a full concert. The annual Yad Zlata Concert has since become Greater Washington’s most anticipated Jewish concert of the year with the proceeds going to support Keren Yad Zlata, a fund dedicated to helping young families in distress due to a sudden crisis.
The community of Montgomery County, Maryland, the place Mrs. Geisinsky’s Shlichus, enormously admired her as a mentor, teacher and wise friend. Her impact literally brightened the lives of thousands and the effects of her noble kindness and wisdom lives-on vividly in their hearts all through the years. The deep feelings with which people still speak about her today reflects her extraordinary dedication and special spirit.
This year’s concert took place, on Sunday, 11 Tamuz – July 23, filling the Kreeger Auditorium at the JCC in Rockville Maryland. The hundreds in attendance were treated to an evening of inspiring music starting with an incredible performance by Tali Yess (son of Moshe Yess a”h). Tali is a true artist, he charmed the audience with his banter of stories and enthralled them with his rich voice, compelling songs and remarkable music.
The second half of the evening featured celebrity song-writer/singer Boruch Sholom Blesofsky. Returning by popular demand, his effervescent personality connected with the crowd immediately as he sang many of his super popular hits and other Chassidic favorites. It was an amazing performance by Boruch Sholom that had folks on their feet until the close of the curtains.
Rabbi Bentzion Geisinsky thanked the community for its heartfelt friendship and support year after year. His son, Bethesda, Maryland Shliach Rabbi Sender Geisinsky paid tribute to his mother ob”m in stirring remarks.
The night was intended to invigorate a community to continue the sacred goals of a noble, devoted mentor. The purpose was realized and her goals carry-on with greater determination. As the hour grew late forcing the curtains to drop there was a pervasive feeling that this concert will take place next year in the presence of its namesake, in the holy city of Yerushalaim with Moshiach Tzidkeinu.
We Never miss it! Such a special evening for such a special person!
Such an amazing way to remember zlata. She was a gem. And I’m sure she is happy when we gather for such simchadik things in her memory. I’ll never forget her smile.
