On December 5, an exhibit at Art Basel in Miami displayed a banana duct-taped to a wall, which sold for $120,000… and then someone ate the banana.
This story went viral, and was reported in the worldwide media. Students at Chabad Jewish Student Center in Gainseville, Florida, parodied the pricey banana to bring awareness to their current fundraising campaign. Their parody exhibit is gaining attention for its creativity as well.
“Unlike a $120,000 banana, your contribution will go towards providing emotional, spiritual and physical support to the students on campus and in the community,” students said. “The funds raised will serve to substantially reduce the mortgage on the Center, securing the home for thousands of Jewish students and saving the Center $7,500 each month in interest payments; money that will be used for more activities, Shabbos, Torah classes, Israel education and advocacy, and student outreach initiatives.”
“With just 12 hours to go for the Gator Giving Challenge, we need your help to raise the final $120,000 and reach our goal of $500,000 in 50 hours.”
“So what do you think, is $120,000 worth it for a banana duct-taped to a wall? Or is the money better spent to support Jewish Life & Learning at the University of Florida and SF College?” asks Rabbi Berl Goldman, Director of Chabad Jewish Student Center.
“I am sure that we agree on the answer. Please consider making a donation right now for this campaign. Every dollar you donate will be doubled by a generous group of matching donors.
“Please make your gift online now at www.JewishGator.com/Matching or by sending a check to the address below.
