An arrest has been made in connection with the antisemitic attack on Chasidic Jews aboard a New York City subway train earlier this week, the NYPD confirmed to COLlive.com on Thursday.
According to police, one of the suspects seen in a widely circulated video was taken into custody. Xeryus Mack was charged with attempted assault in the third degree, menacing, and aggravated harassment.
Authorities said the incident remains under active investigation and is still being reviewed as a possible bias hate crime.
The disturbing encounter occurred Monday and was captured on video that quickly spread on social media. In the footage, two men are seen approaching a group of Chabad bochurim on a subway car and hurling verbal abuse. When one of the Jewish men steps forward in an apparent attempt to protect the others, the attackers turn on him.
One of the assailants is seen grabbing the victim by the neck and threatening him, yelling, “I’ll kill you,” and, “I’ll kill one of you,” before releasing his grip. Bystanders can be heard urging the attackers to calm down, but no one physically intervenes.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams said the incident is being treated with utmost seriousness. “This is being investigated as a hate crime,” the mayor stated, adding that antisemitism and all forms of hate have no place in New York City.
Police said the investigation is ongoing, including efforts to determine whether additional arrests will be made and whether bias charges will be added. Anyone with further information about the incident is urged to contact the NYPD.

How were they able to find him? I know there are videos and pics. But how would they know based on that where to find the guy?
It’s probably not this thug’s first rodeo.
My guess is he’s probably got a long rap sheet.
Blame the politicians and legislation for these crimes.
They are responsible for springing these violent criminals right back on the streets and restricting our rights of self defense or teaching the thugs a lesson they won’t forget.
He’s been arrested 4 times in the last 40 days, not including this time.

There are several other classes that are way more important and more relevant to the daily life of our bochurim that schools should be teaching, classes that prepare our bochurim to make a parnasa and (through math, science, finance, etc) and that actually prepare them to deal with the financial future that they will need to support a family. Krav Maga should only come after.
