You Don’t Have to Go Through This Alone

In times of crisis, access to the right support can make all the difference. Through the New York State Office of Victim Services (OVS), individuals who have experienced crime may be eligible for meaningful financial assistance to aid in their recovery.

This support can include coverage for therapy, medical expenses, and lost wages, helping victims regain stability and begin the healing process.

Importantly, crime is not limited to one type of incident. It includes a wide range of experiences, from domestic situations and abuse to assault, theft, or other criminal acts. If someone has been harmed or impacted as a result of another person’s actions, they may qualify for support.

As Shmuly Rosenstein, Acting Chairman of CHJCC, shared, “Too often, people think this isn’t for them, that their situation doesn’t count. The reality is, if you’ve been impacted by any form of crime, help is available. No one should have to go through that alone.”

At the Crown Heights Jewish Community Council (CHJCC), this is not theoretical, it is real, tangible help. CHJCC, through OVS, has already secured hundreds of thousands of dollars for community members, primarily for therapy and recovery support.

Recognizing the sensitivity of these situations, CHJCC ensures a process that is confidential, respectful, and simple. The team walks each individual through the entire process, from understanding eligibility to applying for assistance, so that no one has to navigate it alone. A police report is no longer required to apply for OVS, removing a major barrier that previously prevented many from seeking help.

There is no need to come into the office. The process is handled discreetly, with guidance on eligibility, assistance with applications, and advocacy throughout.

Many individuals who are eligible never apply, often due to lack of awareness or concerns about privacy. That should not stand in the way of getting help.
