Rabbi Yosef Yitzchok Wilansky, a beloved pre-1A teacher at Yeshiva Tomchei Temimim in Montreal, Canada, passed away on Sunday night, 3 Iyar, 5786.
He was 71.
Rabbi Wilansky has taught at the Yeshiva school, also known as the Rabbinical College of Canada, for over 45 years.
With a love for teaching and boundless energy, Rabbi Wilansky educated generations of Lubavitcher boys with a love for Torah and Aleph Beis.
He put a great emphasis on the Chumash Parties – Hachnasa Lecheder he would host for students together with parents and grandparents. Many Shluchim credit him with showing them the importance of chinuch, especially in the early ages.
He merited to be the son in law of Rabbi Yitzchok Hendel OBM, Rov of the Chabad community of Montreal, Rosh Yeshiva of Tomchei Tmimim Zal, and senior Dayan of Montreal’s Vaad Ha’ir.
He is survived by his wife Mrs. Malke Wilansky, their children Mendy Wilansky – Montreal; Dovid Leib Wilansky – Baltimore, Maryland; Sarah’le Lesches – Montreal; Rivky Perl – Crown Heights; Eli Wilansky – Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Yaakov Wilansky – Roslyn, New York; Moshe Wilansky – Florida; Chaya Gottlieb – Crown Heights; Sholom Wilansky – Kingston, Pennsylvania; Toby Wolf – Crown Heights; Boruch Wilansky – Las Vegas; Shmuel Wilansky – Puerto Rico; Noach Wilansky – Crown Heights; Yissachor Tzvi Wilansky – Crown Heights, and many grandchildren.
He is survived by his siblings: R’ Dovid Wilansky – Elizabeth, NJ; R’ Moshe Wilansky – Portland, Maine; R’ Chaim Wilansky – Parkland, Florida; and Mrs. Toby Halon – Crown Heights; nieces and nephews.
The levaya will take place on Monday, April 20, 2026 – 3 Iyar 5786, at l’erech 3:30PM, at Yeshiva Tomchei Tmimim Lubavitch in Montreal, 6405 Westbury.
