COLlive.com – the Lubavitch community news service – has sent to print the new COLlive Community Calendar for the Hebrew year of 5771.
Prepared for the Crown Heights Jewish community, the calendar was printed at a local business: The Printing Factory of Brooklyn, NY.
The calendar, designed by Unique Image Advertising, is filled with the same features that made it popular in many homes and businesses.
Without overcrowding the pages, we’ve included Hebrew and English dates, special Chabad dates, schedule of all major local schools, alternate parking and more.
But our most refreshing inclusion this year, which will surely stir conversation and thought, will be “The 12 Faces of Crown Heights.”
Working for the leading community news service exposes us to many hundreds of positive acts being done daily by Crown Heights residents in and out of the neighborhood.
Some volunteer their time, others are paid for their efforts. Some are young, others may be older. But all of them are doing what they can to put a smile on a fellow person’s face, excel in their fields, or maybe even inspire a life forever.
Still, most of these caring and committed deeds don’t make it to the news.
So we decided to dedicate our calendar to those living people that are making a difference, in 12 categories that represent life in the community.
This is not so much a “most influential list” or a “man of the year” list, rather an attempt to highlight some of the good being done right here in Kan Tziva.
The calendar will be ready Sunday, G-d willing. Until then we invite you to guess who are the men and women we picked in the following categories:

Rabbi Yisroel Shemtov who has the biggest heart for anyone of any back-round and would drive across the world just to help another yid. he is definitely a person i want my children to learn from.

Torah: Levi Browd, of Yagdil Torah, I don’t think anybody has done so much for Limud HaTorah in Crown Heights then him in a long time. Leadership: Moshe Kotlarsky, definitely one of the Rebbe’s major general’s who helped turn Shlichus into what it is today. Zaki Tamir, a young and unknown figure who came seemingly from out of nowhere to lead the Crown Heights Community Council, and thus far has already starting a few new projects, something I do not recall previous Vaad’s doing.
You should obviously get their approval before you do it.
I think it would be wiser to post the organization rather than those who run it.
Ahavas Chesed (Lieder), Simchas Cv”K (Benjamin), and Simchas SvYT (Stock), should definitely be represented.

How do you choose faces without risking slighting others who are in a similer feild who think they deserve to have been chosen?
k’muvon v’gam poshut it will only have mens pictures, as befits a calendar hanging in an ultra orthodox home. (not G-d forbid that there is anything not good about the women, quite the contrary i would love to add a few special women of my own to the list…. just that there are rules and regulations, some written, some not. some obvious to our generation some not…)
