With Pesach around the corner, Jews everywhere are preparing for the Seder, the most widely observed Jewish tradition of the year. But for someone looking to purchase a Haggadah, the sheer number of editions available can make it hard to know where to start.
The newest episode of “Torah Unboxed,” a video series produced by JNet at Merkos 302 that reviews editions of classic Jewish texts, walks viewers through six Haggadah editions, each geared toward a different type of reader. Previous episodes have covered the Chumash, Siddur, Tehillim, Tanya, Megilas Esther, and Rambam’s Mishneh Torah.
“From Merkos Shlichus to Torah Unboxed, we’re committed to helping every Jew experience Pesach fully,” says Rabbi Mendy Kotlarsky, Executive Director of Merkos 302. “A good Haggadah is one of the best ways to bring Jews closer to their Seder table and make the night feel personal, something Jews around the world are yearning for.”
The episode, hosted by Rabbi Mendel Winner, Shliach at the Chabad Neshama Center in Brighton Beach, NY, reviews six editions: the Classic Kehos Haggadah with artwork by Zalman Kleiman, the Chabad.org Haggadah by Rabbi Tzvi Freeman, the Kehos Haggadah with extensive commentary by Rabbi Yosef Marcus, the Living Haggadah by the Rohr Jewish Learning Institute (JLI), the Gutnick Kol Menachem Haggadah focused on the teachings of the Rebbe, and the Weiss Edition Youth Haggadah.
“The Seder is the most widely observed Jewish tradition in the world, but for many, it stays just that, a tradition,” says Rabbi Mendel Groner, Director of JNet. “The right Haggadah brings excitement, insight, and relevance to the night, and brings the whole Seder to life.”
JNet pairs volunteers who have benefited from a Jewish education with individuals seeking to explore their heritage and texts more deeply. Each partnership offers a one-on-one learning experience tailored to the learner’s interests and background.
