Mrs. Miriam Swerdlov, who took the course previously, praised it highly and noted that in addition to providing a great overview of and “key” to Tanya, “[Soul Maps] made us aware of things inside of us and brought up some great points for discussion.”
This is precisely the goal of the upcoming six-week course designed by Rabbi Shais Taub, renowned expert on Tanya, and author of the popular “The Map of Tanya.”
Soul Maps will provide students with a basic overview of the Tanya, the fundamental text describing self-actualization from a Jewish mystical perspective. The theories and concepts presented in Soul Maps are readily applicable.
As noted in his introduction to Tanya, Rabbi Shne’ur Zalman composed this text as a guide for the throngs of people who came to seek his advice and mentorship in all aspects of their lives. In effect, the book was meant to substitute for personal spiritual counseling with the Alter Rebbe.
The structure of this course is designed to reflect this purpose. The material in this course is presented, not as a review of the text, but as a program for understanding the essential nature of the human being and then engaging in a process of reaching one’s full potential. This incorporates both philosophical discussion and practical direction.

Mrs. Sara Blau, a teacher and Extracurricular Director at Beis Rivkah High School, the author of several children’s books, and columnist at the chabad.org website, thejewishwoman.com, will be teaching the course. She has presented Soul Maps to groups of women and high school students to high acclaim and is a dynamic speaker and knowledgeable teacher.
The Soul Maps course will take place Monday nights from 8:00 pm – 9:30 pm, starting this Monday, February 24, 2014 continuing through Monday, April 7th.
