Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced the appointment of 6 new members to the Statewide Drug Policy Advisory Council last week.
The office, which was created in 1999, coordinates drug control efforts; provides information to the public about the problem of substance abuse and services available; and develops a strategic program and funding to coordinate state agency activities relating to drug control.
Appointed to the council was Rabbi Meir Kessler, Director of the Jewish Recovery Center and a Chaplain at Caron Renaissance. He has dedicated almost 20 years advocating on behalf of recovering addicts and addicts in need of treatment.
Rabbi Kessler, a Chabad Shliach, earned his Rabbinical Ordination from Central Yeshiva Tomchei Temimim Lubavitch in Kfar Chabad, Israel.
Other members include Melanie Brown-Woofter, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Florida Council for Community Mental Health; Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister; Lake County Sheriff Peyton Grinnell; Pastor of City Church Tallahassee Dean Inserra; and Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco.
“It is an honor to serve on the Florida Drug Policy Advisory Council, and I thank Governor DeSantis and Rabbi Schneur Oirechman of Chabad of Tallahassee for making this happen,” Rabbi Kessler said.
“I am committed to cultivating a culture of compassion, understanding, and effective policies that prioritize the well-being and recovery of individuals impacted by drug addiction,” he added.

Well deserved, the best of the best
May God bless them all with great success!
Meir was there for me when one of my children were struggling. A Tzadik for caregivers entering a very confusing world.
Meir and Frumi are outstanding. Kol hakovod. May you go from strength to strength.
Meir is so amazing! May Hashem bless him and his family
