On Tuesday night the ladies of Ramat Beit Shemesh joined together at a unique farbrengen led by Rabbi Zev and Bina Stiefel, Shluchim of the Rebbe in Piestany, Slovakia.
Mrs. Chana Grossman graciously opened her home for the event, which was very well attended by both Chabad and non-Chabad ladies.
The theme of “Connections” began with Rabbi Stiefel singing “Hachanna” nighun and gave over part of Basi L’Gani in keeping with the theme of connecting Rebbe and Chassidim and indeed, all Jews.
Both Rabbi and Mrs. Stiefel spoke at length about their shlichus, telling stories and describing their challenges and successes. There was a great deal of audience participation; one question was how with rising antisemitism in Europe could they stay there, especially as many Slovaks will not openly admit their Jewishness.
Rabbi Stiefel’s answer showed the audience how committed the Rebbe is to every single Jew, no matter how far removed from a Kehilla or Yiddishkeit.
What made this unique experience truly incredible was towards the end when an 11-year old girl – not from a Chabad home – stood up and said she wants to be a Shlucha. Her mother sat there clearly proud and delighted that her daughter aspires to such a goal.
The farbrengen ended on this positive note, with the audience leaving inspired, excited and judging from the feedback, delighted they were there.
