The body of Rabbi Zvi Kogan, one of the Chabad Shluchim in the United Arab Emirates who was missing for 4 days, was located on Sunday, local authorities reported.
He was 28.
Rabbi Kogan was born on the 26th of Menachem Av 5756 (1996) to his parents, Rabbi Alexander and Etel Kogan, a Litvish haredi family living in the Ramat Shlomo neighborhood in Jerusalem.
In his youth, he learned in the Yeshivas Maoz Chayil in Jerusalem, Rabeinu Chaim Ozer in Bnei Brak, and Mir in Jerusalem. He then served in the Givati Brigade operational military unit of the Israel Defense Forces.
Zvi became close to Chabad and began following the ways of Chassidus. They both moved to the Emirates to assist Rabbi Levi Duchman, Rabbi of the United Arab Emirates, in expanding Jewish life in the Emirates.
Ever since the signing of the Abraham Accords peace deal with Israel, the Emirates has seen its Jewish population grow exponentially. There have been shuls opened, the first Jewish education center in the Gulf, and a wide selection of kosher food.
In March 2022, he got married to Rivky Spielman, a Lubavitcher from Crown Heights who is the niece of Rabbi Gavriel Holtzberg, the Chabad Shliach who was killed in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.
Rabbi and Mrs. Kogan soon moved on Shlichus and lived in Abu Dhabi. She taught in the school while he operated the Rimon Kosher supermarket in Dubai, the city that drew most of the tourists and visitors.
“He was a cheerful person who never said ‘no’ to anyone, always helping and assisting everyone,” a friend of his said. “Every person would leave him feeling sorted; he always knew how to guide and assist. He was a modest individual who honored his parents in a remarkable way, a truly G-d-fearing person who consistently remained humble. His trait of gratitude was well-known and admired.”
This past Thursday, Rabbi Kogan went missing in the middle of the day. His vehicle was found abandoned in Al Ain, around 93 miles from Abu Dhabi.
Walla news site, citing security sources, reported that Israel has information that Rabbi Kogan was being followed by Iranian intelligence.
Israel’s Prime Minister’s Office and the Foreign Affairs Ministry stated: “The Israeli mission in Abu Dhabi has been in contact with the family since the beginning of the incident and continues to support them during this difficult time,” the announcement declared. “His family in Israel has also been informed.”
They added, “The murder of the late Zvi Kogan is a criminal antisemitic terrorist attack. The State of Israel will act by all means and bring the criminals responsible for his death to justice.”
Since the murder, Israel’s National Security Council has called on citizens to avoid non-essential travel to the United Arab Emirates. The travel warning for the country remains at Level 3 (medium threat) and was not changed following the murder. However, there is still concern that Israelis and Jews in the Emirates may be under threat, N12 reported.
Rabbi Kogan is survived by his wife Rivky, his parents Rabbi Alexander and Etel Kogan of Jerusalem, siblings, and in-laws R’ Shmuel and Devorah Spielman of Crown Heights.
The funeral is expected to be in Israel.
Hashem Yikom Damo.

A heartwrenching, devastating loss to all of Klal Yisrael. No one brings more light to the world than a Chabad Shaliach. May H’ avenge his blood powerfully and rapidly. May we know no more suffering. May Rabbi Kogan’s memory be a tremendous blessing. Chabad friends and family, we are with you.
Enough is enough. May his meshama be a מליץ for Klal Yisroel.
This is beyond devastating.
We cant anymore
We need moshiach now!!!

This is terrible we need moshiach!!!
Wow Ad Mosai!?
Moshiach now!
THIS JS NOT HOW A FATHER ACTS NO MATTER HOW BAD HIS KIDS BEHAVED! This is sickening!
Rivky, we’re with you in your pain. We’re speechless and have no words to comfort other than HASHEM NEEDS TO GET HIS ACT TOGETHER AND FIX THIS WITH THE COMING OF MOSHIACH!
No matter how horrendous this is, you cannot talk about Hashem that way!! הצור תמים פעלו כי כל דרכיו משפט א-ל אמונה ואין אול, צדיק וישר הוא Do you believe in the תורה that twice includes hair-raising תוכחה, plus multiple warnings throughout חומש דברים of what will happen if we go astray? It is WE – AM YISROEL – who need to get our act together. Hashem’s actions are always perfect and He takes all considerations into account – משפטי ה’ אמת צדקו יחדיו. And if you think that I’m being heartless and callous, I know the kadosh’s wonderful family,… Read more »
I disagree with your comment
We are allowed to speak any way we wish to hashem ! If we don’t express our pain by a action he did makes yiddishkeit empty of life and just doing Torah and mitzvahs as a robot
We are allowed to complain..
The commentator is right!
This is not how a father acts! Do we as parents act this way to our biological children when they don’t behave?!
Pain, yes. Complain, no.
This is literally the meaning of Kerias Shema. We are forbidden to express anger at Hashem.
Kabbalas ol is even when we don’t feel like it.
I disagree with you
We are allowed to complain!
If God forbid you lost someone close to you
What would you do?!
Kabalas ol is only to a certain extent
Who are you to say what is forbidden?!
perfectly said
Please! No matter how pained we are, we may never ever speak about/to Hashem in this manner! Bordering on Kefirah. Emotions are running high now, I get it, but we must hold on to our bitochon and not waver.
We must always speak to/of Hashem with the utmost respect despite our immense pain.
Gevald!!! This news breaks my heart!!! Ad masi?!?!
HYD
So many questions, no answers .. literally none.
Ad Mosai, Hashem end this Golus
End end end end end!!!!!
it’s the same as Holtzberg took place right before Kinus
Almost 16 years to the day.
ברוך דיין האמת
😭😭😭
That was right after the kinus
True. About a week apart. My son was born about a week before the attack on Mumbai, and tonight is his birthday. It’s crazy.
This is beyond heartbreaking
Baruch Dayan Haemes
Ad Masai!
Moshiach Now!
Rivky, truly heartbroken for you. We are all holding you, sending all of the strength
Such tragic news. YIDEN…WAKE UP…we are at war. TO ALL TRAVELERS. Stay away from arab countries…even “more friendly” ones. Don’t even support their airlines. There are so many people in these countries that hate us and unfortunently we are easier targets there.
💔 I am completely and utterly devastated by the tragic news of the murder of a colleague and fellow Shliach of the Rebbe. As thousands of Shluchim are currently en route to the annual Kinus Hashluchim (Conference of Chabad Emissaries), this year’s gathering will undoubtedly be one of immense emotion and reflection. Tragically, Rabbi Kogan’s wife is the niece of Rabbi Gavriel and Rebbetzin Rivka Holtzberg, who were murdered 15 years ago during the horrific attacks in Mumbai—also in the week of the Kinus Hashluchim. The Rebbe entrusted his Shluchim with the sacred mission to love and care for every… Read more »
Sending hugs to the Speilman family. This is completely heart breaking.

Ad Mosia Hashem Please! Please bring an end to this bitter Galus and bring us the beginning of the sweet Geulah

Where is the protection?
Rebbe, Rebbe……..please save us all from these y”ms…..
May the family have much comfort.
I’m a yid who found my Judaism through Chabad. We are one family and we are all in terrible pain together. BDE
No words to describe the pain. May HaShem comfort his wife and his family.
This is Klal Isroel loss.
BOMB IRAN IMMIDIATELY!!!!! NO RACHMONUS ON THAT HORRIBLE REGIME!!!
Qatar is more likely behind it then Iran.
But whatever.
We’ve got no idea and no way of verifying the information from the less than scrupulous Israeli Intelligence experts.
Just be smart and don’t fall for every bit of propaganda we’re being fed.
This is too much! We need Moshiach now!!!
Hashem we can’t take it anymore !!!! This is too painful . He was my sons friend , sweetest kindest person. May Hashem give his family strength.
When is the levaya?
So sorry to hear! May Hashem comfort the family! Moshiach now!
I read somewhere they tried to take him to Iran. BH that did not work. Such a heartbreaking story.
You will be reading lots of misinformation from the anonymous sources and intelligence agencies that wish to deceive and mislead. Believe it at your own risk or you’ll end up in www3 or martial law.
You cannot blame any Yid at this point for screaming in total PAIN. Years years ago Avraham put out an English song: “Don’t hide from me, though I know that you are truly there, everywhere, still and all I cannot see you.. This Was Years Ago We’ve been through hell and back since these words have been put out… It’s practically impossible to just hang in there..”Hashem knows what He’s doing…” The Rebbe said all the “work has been done..” “Shlichus completed.” All that remains is : 1) Accepting the Malchus of Beis Dovid Yechi HaMelech 2) Seek the Beis… Read more »

So so crazy. We need Moshiach.
Sending love and comfort to the entire spielman family on this tremendous loss and to Rivky our hearts are absolutely shattered may you know of only good from here💕💕
Regardless of what we so desperately want to know, there are no reliable guarantees. Most of the time most of us aren’t confronted with the reality that there is what we consider bad in the mix of the mundane and good stuff. Hashem, Geula, moshiach, miracles, hasgacha protis, sahyahto dishmaya, tefilla, tehillim, supplication, etc. do not prevent @#$%^ from happening. Never did and never will. Consider the history we so proudly commemorate and the present day. Bad happens. Good happens. Today’s murders. Gazan hostages, Soldier deaths. October 7th. 9/11. Holocaust. Crusades. Inquisition. And there are the bright spots, not the… Read more »
