The NYPD 71st Precinct will add extra police coverage in Crown Heights this week due to the recent crime incidents in the neighborhood.
Residents have expressed concern about safety in the neighborhood, with 2 incidents of violence reported in the past week.
These included a woman who was the victim of an alleged anti-semitic attack, and a young man who was held up at gunpoint.
Rabbi Chanina Sperlin of the CHJCC has been in contact with the Brooklyn Borough Chief’s office, who informed him that extra coverage is being arranged for the neighborhood.
Inspector Joseph Hayward, Commanding Officer of the 71 Precinct in Crown Heights, informed that 6 extra police cars, and a minimum of 12 extra police officers will be patrolling the neighborhood for the next few days.
The plan is to also have more than 30 extra police officers on the streets during the Chanukah holiday, when many people are out and about, and bochurim return late from Mivtzoim on Mitzvah Tanks, Sperlin said.
“We thank the NYPD for their concern for the safety of our residents,” Sperlin told COLlive.com.
He said arrangements are also being made for Yud Tes Kislev next week when many will be celebrating the Rosh Hashana of Chassidus at Farbrengens and events.

About as much good as it’s ever done. The problem is that law enforcement is not on the side of the law abiding – at least within the borders of crown heights..
