This Chanukah, the light and joy of the holiday spread far and wide throughout Rockland County, NY with a massive Mivtzoim effort led by Igud Anash.
Over the past two years, anash of Rockland County has been doing a tremendous amount of Mivtzoim under Igud Anash, and a grand effort this Chanukah built up that success even further.
In an effort coordinated together with all the local Lubavitch schools, hundreds of kids headed out on Mivtzoim each night of Chanukah, giving out Menorahs and brochures and lighting in many homes.
A special Mivtzoim center was made available where all the Mivtzoim materials were sold at cost price, such as doughnuts, chocolate coins, dreidels, Menorahs, and more items. People were coming by throughout the entire Chanukah to pick up materials before they headed out to homes, apartments, nursing homes, shopping malls, and streets.
Additionally, all the kids who went to Mivtzoim were rewarded for their efforts with raffles, prizes, and more.
“Many people that were visited remembered the visitors from previous Yomim Tovim,” said Rabbi Levi Tiechtel, one of the coordinators. “They were so happy to see them, and this strengthened the relationship,” he said.
A big focus this year was on many of the schools visiting the residents in local senior centers. The visits were arranged before Chanukah, and many local centers were visited, some of them for the first time. The children sang and lit the Menorah with the residents, bringing them the joy of Chanukah.
For the first time this year, the Mivtzoim were even more special, with the addition of members of other Chasidishe communities and others joining in as well. “This is really the goal of Chanukah, of Hafotzas Hamayonos, when all types of Jews unite to spread the light,” said Rabbi Tiechtel.
