In his short life, the young shliach Menachem Mendel Oberlander has succuded in touching people’s lives with his sincerety.
While battling a debilitating chronic condition, he didn’t forget his parents’ mission back in Budapest as the Rebbe’s Shluchim to Hungary – Rabbi Boruch and Batsheva Oberlander and his grandparents’ shlichus in Italy – Rabbi Moshe and Henya Yehudis Lazar.
A telling moment was of him as a camper in Chai Lifeline’s medically supervised Camp Simcha in Glen Spey, NY, for 400 seriously ill children battling ‘yene machla’ and other hematological illnesses.
In a YouTube clip from 2010, Mendel is seen asking staff and visitors “Did you put on Tefillin today?”
Mendel passed away on Friday, Shvat 17, 5772 at the age of 20. The levaya took place Friday afternoon in Budapest with fellow Shluchim and members of the local Jewish community present.

May the Aibishter comfort.
The mitzva of comforting the mourners is here a MISSION IMPOSSIBLR, it seems…
As the word “COMFORT”
resembles ” COMEFORTH”
May all those, who COME FORTH, be it by phone email, in person etc,
takeh be a COMFORT to you at this difficult time
after SO much difficulty…
until HASHEM will send the true and only real COMFORT, when MOSHIACH will COME FORTH.!.
This brought tears to my eyes…there are souls brought into this world long enough to impact, then they are restored to perfection as the earthly form cannot hold such purity within it’s imperfection. I see that in this child. What nachas he brought his parents in his 20 years…may we all be so blessed as parents!
WOW, INSPIRING.
what a special young man…may Moshiach come right now!!! Enough of this bitter golus
