A crowd of over 2,000 gathered for a historic groundbreaking event at Lubavitch Yeshiva of Crown Street in Crown Heights on Sunday, Chof Cheshvan.
The event marks a major milestone for the Yeshiva, the beginning of a major expansion of the existing building located on Crown Street and Albany Avenue in Crown Heights, which is currently bursting at the seams.
Throughout the event, singer Eli Marcus kept the crowd singing and dancing with joyous Niggunim, as the donation totals were projected on a large screen.
The MC for the event, Rabbi Getzy Markowitz, opened the event by introducing Rabbi Yosef Simpson, the Yeshiva Menahel, who read the Rebbe’s letter of blessings which was sent at the opening of this very building when it was first built in 1992.
A special tribute to Rabbi Shmarya Katzen obm, a beloved and devoted Pre 1A Rebbi in the Yeshiva for over 47 years, followed. The crowd then joined in singing the 12 Pesukim accompanied by the music video which was produced of Rabbi Katzen’s well-known tunes.
Rabbi Heschel Greenberg, Shliach in Buffalo, NY, delivered a Dvar Torah.
An exciting 3D video, seen with special 3D glasses, gave participants a glimpse of the expansion and the state-of-the-art building which is to come.
Principal donors to the campaign, Boruch and Naomi Greenberg, Moshe and Nechama Dina Simpson and Mendy and Shterna Chein were thanked for their support and honored with digging the first stone, and Yossi and Sara Langsam were saluted for their devotion to the Yeshiva.
The groundbreaking ceremony then proceeded with Rabbonim, community leaders, donors, and Hanhalla members of the local Yeshivas.
The excitement reached its peak when the $5 million fundraising goal was reached, and a beautiful fireworks display lit up the night sky.
