Some just want to learn!
Bochurim from the Central Yeshiva Tomchei Tmimim Lubavitch located at 770 Eastern Parkway found alternative locations to study on Tuesday.
Barred from entering the main shul of 770 due to the violence of a rough group of students, the rest of the bochurim went to local shuls in Crown Heights.
They continued learning Gemara and Chassidus on their own as a way to recover from the violence and wreckage in 770 the previous night.
The New York Police Department has closed the main shul after the group identified by their “mishichist” articles of clothing breached the walls of the Rebbe’s shul.
They were trying to stop a cement truck and construction crew from filling up the tunnel they unilaterally dug in recent months to expand the building on their own.
The “riot” has been reported in the international media and was tending on the social media site X (Twitter), sparking antisemitic comments and conspiracy theories.
Their actions have been condemned by Lubavitch officials, Crown Heights Beis Din members Rabbi Avrohom Osdoba and Rabbi Yosef Braun, and many others commenting on COLlive.com.
Motti Seligson, media director for Chabad.org, wrote:
“Some time ago, a group of extremist students broke through a few walls in adjacent properties to the synagogue at 784-788 Eastern Parkway, to provide them unauthorized access. Earlier today, a cement truck was brought in to repair those walls. Those efforts were disrupted by the extremists who broke through the wall to the synagogue, vandalizing the sanctuary, in an effort to preserve their unauthorized access.
“They have since been arrested and the building closed pending a structural safety review.
“Lubavitch officials have attempted to gain proper control of the premises through the New York State court system; unfortunately, despite consistently prevailing in court, the process has dragged on for years.
“This is, obviously, deeply distressing to the Lubavitch movement, and the Jewish community worldwide. We hope and pray to be able to expeditiously restore the sanctity and decorum of this holy place.”
On Tuesday, a tent that was put up in the courtyard of 770 for a wedding was conveniently used for many to daven amid the rainy weather. Bochurim found open doors in local shuls and at Yagdil Torah’s Heichal Halimud to continue their studies uninterrupted.
Why can’t we expel the bad ones, and if they still come into 770, we can charge with trespassing, until they either have thier visa revoked or get sentenced to prison. (This doesn’t make me happy)
And the rest can sit and learn and be warmly welcomed by the community.
Because Merkos and Agu”ch have no control over the shul. They’ve been fighting in court against Congregation Lubavitch Inc. (which is not the Rebbe’s moisad) for gaining control. The legal battle started with Cong. Lubavitch Inc. supporting the bochurim who vandalized the plaque by the even hapinah, so no surprise that they haven’t done anything about these bochurim.
They are not trespassers. They were brought in to 770. This was a very organized operation
Bad decision to involve the police instead of, if there was cause, taking action to expel, send home and initiate a Din Torah on any individuals who deserved it. The consequences of bringing in sonei yisroel and the highly dramatized and exaggerated publicity can not do anyone good. It seems like the whole thing is being driven by personal agendas. To the point that it compromises the learning of the regular boys and maybe the views and hashkafa of those who need to respect the leadership. I saw a secular reporter with a camera today, I’m sure there were many… Read more »
There was no choice! Those idiots undermined the building leaving no structural support for the kingston shul!
The dept of buildings has to certify the building as safe now.
Or would you rather have it collapse and kill someone?
Legally, once the bricks were broken, there was no choice
..’if there was cause’. Are you out of touch that you can’t determine whether there was cause? Really?
‘taking action to expel, send home and initiate a Din Torah on any individuals who deserved it’
This is exactly why it is an ongoing (and large) issue. There is nobody taking action in regards to maintaining order in 770, and it’s been ongoing for a long time. All the above would be perfectly reasonable actions, but there is apparently no ability for anybody to lead such any effective decision making.
They were probably called because the crazies were destroying 770, watch the videos, with the possibility of the woman’s section collapsing and killing people. That’s unless they are qualified building engineers in which case I apologize.
You should see the horrific lies in the NYPost. The comments section alone is full of liars putting forth stories claiming there were secret tunnels being used for child trafficking. Waste of time to read but unbelievable that people put forth such easily refutable nonsense yet people fall for it because they repeat it so much in so many different forums. It’s probably all the same group attacking on various social media fronts at the same time.
No, will not work, they would crowd and crowd anc come back and come back
Unfortunately, no one did anything until now. Even though this was going on for years. I despise the label meshichist as it has anti semitic connotations, but these Israeli boys have decided to take over 770 and basically alienated everyone else from feeling comfortable to be there. They should have been stopped ages ago!
If their mashpiim don’t have the backbone to stand up to them they should step down and allow someone who will do the job!
770 is Beis Rabbeinu Sheb’bovel. Destruction of any part of the is like ripping stones from the will of the Beis Hamikdosh. ” Minor incident”?????? These individuals will not listen to Hanhollo, Beis Din, or and Jewish authority. There have been years of acts of destruction and violence. Calling the police was the necessary response. Why are you accusing the victim of the Chillul Hashem ?? Don’t you think it’s a Chillul Hashem if you don’t defend 770? If this happened in your home wouldn’t you call the police? The world is more impressed that we are finally dealing with… Read more »
Tzfatim, not meshechistim
There’s a big difference
COL keeps getting it wrong
One created the other
You need to own up to the craziness you created
On The early eve of Rebbitzen Chana’s birthday! What would the Rebbe say? Anything even a little similar over the years?
This has caused such a massive widespread chillul hashem that everyone involved MUST be held accountable. Do you know what’s going around the internet and youtube right now. People are saying it was a secret tunnel for pedophiles and it’s being filled as a cover up. THAT’S the rumor going around because of these thoughtless imbeciles. HOLD. THEM. ACCOUNTABLE.
It’s soooooooooo sad how they can get arrested and they just laughed it off.
Bringing the Rebbe in to this?
Do they know and understand what a Rebbe is?
(And the 7 Rabaim are)?
Did they realize that (back in the 60s,’70s, 80s, and 90s) that’s where the Rebbe was actually sitting and Farbrenging??
Who are they fooling?
Because no chassid in Russia was sent to prison for teaching Torah?! Even though the Rebbeim encouraged it?! Are you a lubavitcher?! They felt they needed to stand up for the shul, what’s the issue?!
its called shulchan aruch.
Destruction of property, vandalism, assaulting police officers, take your pick..
So the Rebbeim didnt disobey the government?! Didnt go against the law of the land and was sent to prison AND involved their chassidim as well to follow suit?! You call that what? A cult?! Todays generation have no connection whatsoever with the Rebbe, at all!
It’s disgusting how they have no regard to the seforim that were being thrown to the floor. Reminds me during Covid there was a video of people davening and during krias hatirah a bochur came to bima, swiped the seforim to floor and pulled the bima away while they leining. Bh quick thinking person grabbed Sefer Torah. This is not yiddishkeit!
Just because someone is michichist does not mean they go along with what was done in 770.
Just as you cant label all those chabad as guilty because of a few crazies who do not follow halacha and dont listen to anyone.
They have destroyed 770 before and nothing was done so they got bolder
Agreed, I know many Meshichistim, myself included, who are very against this.
I think that tsavtzim are a extremist group that stems from meschichistim, but now are not connected.
I am saddened, but the Lubavitch will emerge stronger, G-d willing. Challenge makes us stronger. Do we not go down, so that we can rise up? The good people of this movement are the last to ever deserve this. It is not deserved. But it will be overcome. There is so much goodness, so much mesiras nefesh in the ranks of the shluchim and rabbonim and on and on, and it is not at all for naught. B”H the synagogue will emerge renewed, sanctified, as a place of study and worship for all those that are sadly strewn outside of… Read more »
Please Hashem 🙏🏼
Why all the labeling?
As a relative newcomer to Chabad, I wish only the best, and to reciprocate in kind the spiritual growth I have received. B”H, it will be good. This is not deserved, at all. But it will be good. The movement is strong enough to get through this and to emerge stronger than before, with unity and strength.
Who is actually paying all the present bills in 770 has to deal/take responsibility for allowing/welcoming this unqualified/unstable individual with a clear agenda completely unacceptable, everyone involved will have to answer to The Rebbe’s & Rebbetzens… We are dealing with Chabad Lubavitch Headquarters The Rebbe’s Moisad which was established with so much Mesiras Nefesh How in the right mind can anyone allow bring provide any service to a Neturei Karta like Group. just inconceivably. Time for new Community Real Chassidim with solid performance reputation which are professional/effective/ responsible/competent/qualified to manage and bring back immediately Honor/Stability/Pride moving forward reestablishing the dignity/kedusha… Read more »

No need to add COLlive.com (anonymous) commenters to the same list as rabonim, seems disrespectful to me.
Keep it locked so these people will learn a lesson. Every time you deface the building it will be locked for a period of time
I believe AT THIS TIME that it would be appropriate from the
Crown Heights Beis Dinto demand a Tannis Kloli ( a fast day) set
Good joke. Some kids broke a wall in a Shul to make it bigger. Stop overblowing it.
Removing all the yellow flags would do a lot more good than a million private fasts
I’m sorry but a mob breaking down walls means you need professional help from police. All the blame for the chilul hashem should be placed on the ones who destroyed the shul not those who tried to stop it.
It’s Yom Kipur Koton. We should all fast today or designate the terrible day as a fast day. The Chillul is unbearable.
You are funny. Getting all worked up over a wall
Like back in high school when the whole class had to suffer due to one troubled student
