Learning Parsha at Jewelry Store

In honor of these weeks Parshios where the Torah discusses at length the Trumos Jews brought towards the building of the Mishkan, the Pre-1Alef Class of Oholei Yosef Yitzchok Lubavitch Yeshiva in Crown Heights visited Mink Jewelry Store to have hands on experience with gold, silver, and copper.

Students had an opportunity to touch and feel several precious stones that were used for the Choshen Mishpot and Avnei Shoham (onyx stones) that were on the Eifod, the garments of a Kohen Godol.

“The students really learned a lot,” said Mila Schneiderman, Director of the program. “It was very inspirational to see, touch, and feel the beautiful items, something that our students don’t necessarily have everyday experience with, as not many parents take their kids to the jewelry store to show them those beautiful items that our forefathers have sacrificed for the building of Hashem’s home.”

Mr. Minkowitz, the store’s owner, explained to the students the detailed process of obtaining gold, and silver, as well as precious stones. How hard one must to toil in finding them deep in the ground. Students also learned how in the times of Moshiach we will have all the treasures revealed to us, and simply lying on the ground for everyone to take. One student excitedly said, “Wow! the world will be so beautiful and shiny!”

“We are very grateful for Mr. Minkowitz for allowing our class to have such hands on experience,” Schneiderman said.
