LA Mayor Installs Shul’s Presidium

At the recent Menorah lighting of the Los Angeles Mayor, Eric Garcetti, the opportunity was taken to inaugurate the recently elected Presidium of The Rebbe’s Diamond Davener’s — Kol Yakov Yehuda 5776.

The Mayor, who is no stranger to the hard campaigning and elections that the Kol Yakov Yehuda candidates faced, told the newly elected officials that they are the future leaders and must take on their new job with responsibility and honor.

Rabbi Mendel Duchman, founder and director of Kol Yakov Yehuda used the opportunity to ask the first Jewish LA Mayor in over 130 years if he davens. When he responded that he did with an emphatic “of course,” Duchman bestowed on the Mayor a Kol Yakov Yehuda Diamond Davening Medal. The Mayor announced that he was truly honored by the medal.

The newly inaugurated Presidium of Zalmy Greenbaum, Moishe Aron Giesinsky and Sholom Dov Ber Cohen will have their work cut out for them as they plan for the upcoming Unzere Kinder Convention.

The convention, which is due to take place just before Yud Shvat, was preceded by the inaugural Unzere Kinder Convention two years ago, that had over 500 in attendance.

This convention is shaping up to be just as successful, with trailblazing Director of CTeens, Rabbi Shimon Rivkin slated to headline the event, as well as a Motzei Shabbos grand Hakhel concert by popular band 8th Day.

“The purpose of the convention is to imbue Unzere Kinder with 36 hours of Chassidishe empowerment and fun as a lead up to Yud Shvat,” said Rabbi Mendel Duchman.

The Shabbaton, which is being labeled as the largest Hakhel gathering on the West Coast, is being sponsored by (in formation) Cong. Levi Yitzchok, Kol Yakov Yehudah, Bais Betzalel’s, Kol Avrohom, Chabad SoLa, Lamplighters Jewish Academy, Bais Chaya Mushka, Bais Rebbe, Chabad Hebrew Academy, Cheder Menachem, Unzere Kinder, and Tzivos Hashem.
