In honor of the 60th yahrzeit of Rebbetzin Chana Schneerson, obm, the Israeli Consul General in New York, Mr. Ofir Akunis, visited the Rebbe’s home and the worldwide Chabad Headquarters—770—accompanied by family members. The visit was arranged by Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak and Rivky Noyman.
Mr. Akunis said about the visit, “We had an uplifting visit at the Rebbe’s home and at 770, one of the most important places for the Jewish people. The Rebbe’s influence is still felt today by millions around the world. His wisdom, kindness, and burning faith in the unity of Israel, in love for each other, and in the complete land of Israel are remarkable.”
At the Rebbe’s home, he was welcomed by Rabbi Yirmiyahu Berkowitz from the Chabad worldwide headquarters and Rabbi Mendel Krinsky. During the visit, the Consul General lit a candle in memory of the Rebbetzin and in remembrance of all the holy souls who perished in the War of Iron Swords, praying for the success of IDF soldiers and security forces.
The general tour of 770 and the WLCC broadcasting room was conducted by Rabbi Mendel Eisenbach, director of the 770 Chabad House. The Consul General also took the opportunity to recite Tashlich in the 770 courtyard.
Rabbi Kuti Feldman explained how Chassidim prepared before entering Yechidus with the Rebbe and how one should approach the sanctity inside. Dressed in tallit and tefillin, the consul prayed in the Rebbe’s room and offered a personal prayer. Thanks were given to Rabbi Chaim Baruch Halberstam, the manager responsible for the Rebbe’s room.
In the lobby of 770, Rabbi Noyman presented attendees with videos from the 15th of Elul 5751, when he had the privilege of passing by the Rebbe as a small child, as well as the visit of the then-Israeli Consul General on that day.
Rabbi Shalom Dovber Levin, the director of the Agudas Chassidei Chabad Library, provided a comprehensive overview in the exhibition hall. The consul was deeply impressed by the historical exhibits related to the Chabad Rebbes, particularly the Rebbe’s personal belongings.

Incredible! What a special and meaningful visit with the Consul General. We as a community continue to give the Rebbe a lot of nachas.
Its also really nice to see how this visit has continued after the Consul General’s predecessor Asaf Zamir visited crown heights in 2022.
