Members of the Hecht family from around the world gathered Wednesday at Ohel Chabad Lubavitch in Cambria Heights for a Siyum and Seuda to commemorate 19th Yartzeit of Rabbi Yaakov Yehuda Hecht OBM.
Speakers included his sons Rabbi Shimon Hecht, who made a siyum for the participants, Rabbi Shea Hecht.
A seudas mitzvah followed.
Rabbi Yaakov Yehuda Hecht OBM was renowned as a beloved educator and leader, directing the National Committee for the Furthurance of Jewish Education – NCFJE in Crown Heights. He and his wife, Rebbetzin Chave Hecht, founded Camp Emunah, a Jewish camp for girls in the Catskills.
Rabbi Hecht was very close to the Lubavitcher Rebbe, expressing great love and devotion to his work, and this was something which was truly reciprocated by the Rebbe. Rabbi Hecht was like a child to him, and the love and the unity which they had was something that grew and flourished between them until his passing.

Truly a father figure, truly an example of hiskashrus.
Love all the redheads!
I remember the moment…I was a ‘part’ of the Hecht family that summer running one of the NCFJE camps. And then the news hit. It was a shock then and it continues to be a loss to all. I am sure he is sitting right up there translating the Rebbe’s words for all the English speaking in Gan Eden.
I have such fond memories of Camp Emunah, and Rabbi Hecht, truly ‘the father of us all’ in camp…. he was such a special man, sorely missed by all…
