A major new initiative aimed at easing the financial burden of weddings in Crown Heights was announced today by Keren Hachomesh, in partnership with Oholei Torah, offering an all-inclusive, affordable wedding package for the beautiful Oholei Torah Ballroom, utilizing the most upscale and popular vendors in the wedding industry, COLlive has learned.
After months of discussions and nuanced planning, today they are announcing a curated, all-inclusive wedding package priced at $29,500 ($14,750 a side), coming in at close to half the cost of a typical wedding of this caliber.
The formal agreement was finalized in recent days, in which Keren HaChomesh, a fund established by the Rebbe and administered by Machne Israel, has partnered with Oholei Torah and assumed exclusive operational responsibility for the Oholei Torah Ballroom, long regarded as one of the neighborhood’s most elegant wedding venues.
After speaking with many Crown Heights residents about what a typical wedding entails, Keren Hachomesh recognized that a carefully curated roster of vendors is key to maintaining consistent quality while achieving affordability through economies of scale. By establishing exclusive agreements with select vendors, costs can be kept down without compromising standards.
To that end, the wedding package will include a selection of Crown Heights’ most popular and top-tier vendors, each of whom have partnered with Keren HaChomesh and the Oholei Torah Hall in this groundbreaking initiative: Table One Catering has been commissioned as the exclusive catering partner, bringing its reputation for excellence, presentation, and top-tier kosher cuisine. Clients will be able to select top industry vendors for their simcha. Chanie Greenbaum Events or Debby Event Design will serve as the official florists for weddings under the initiative. Photography will be provided by CJ Studios, and clients will choose from top-tier musicians including Choni Milecki, Mendy Kraus, Yossi Cohen, Shimon Brod and Fitche Benshimon.
The single, flat fee will cover the hall, along with top tier vendors providing catering, flowers and décor, photography, music, and additional curated wedding essentials. If desired, the services of Mrs. Devorah Benjamin as the wedding planner to guide and keep the wedding running smoothly are also included. Additional details will be publicized by 15 Shevat. The package includes settings for 275 guests — the average size of a wedding in Oholei Torah — with an option to upgrade for larger weddings as well.
The goal is to ensure that a beautiful, respectable, and tasteful wedding is more attainable for every Chabad family and Shluchim, as well as for families from the broader Anash community, including those from outside Crown Heights, and that it can be achieved without incurring tens of thousands of dollars in debt.
Rabbi Shmaya Krinsky, Executive Director of Keren HaChomesh and Machne Israel, told COLlive.com that the move follows years of firsthand experience hearing from families struggling to afford dignified weddings. “Many families who are just getting by financially and are doing OK, when faced with making weddings, find themselves in debt all over again in their fifties,” he said.
“Supporting kallahs and chasanim has been a core mandate of Keren HaChomesh since its establishment, rooted in the Rebbe’s directives following the Rebbetzin’s passing,” said Rabbi Shmaya Krinsky, who is overseeing and spearheading the program.
What began as simply financial assistance has now been developed by Machne Israel’s leadership team into a structured and proactive solution addressing a growing communal need.
While typical Crown Heights weddings often exceed $50,000 to $60,000 for what is considered an “average wedding,” the new model will bring expenses down to half of that, and will do so without compromising standards. Organizers emphasized that this is not a “takana” or discount hall, or a new lower-tier solution, but a thoughtfully designed framework that balances refinement with affordability.
Keren Hachomesh, as part of its mission to assist chasanim and kallos, is investing in enhancements to the already beautiful space. Planned upgrades include new mechitzos, improved serving and buffet stations, and additional aesthetic and practical improvements.
As the goal of the initiative is to create more accessible and affordable weddings, financing and payment plan options are being explored to further ease financial strain for families.
Keren Hachomesh stresses that in addition to the curated wedding package, the Oholei Torah ballroom will remain available for weddings that don’t choose to use the curated package, and families who wish to rent the hall independently through Keren Hachomesh and select their own vendors may continue to do so, subject to venue standards and terms. The goal, organizers stressed, is to expand options rather than restrict them.
The motivation behind the initiative is twofold, in keeping with the Rebbe’s directives to Keren HaChomesh and to chassidim. The first goal, dovetailing with Keren HaChomesh’s mission as directed by the Rebbe, is to financially aid chassanim and kallos. The second goal is to help keep weddings in Crown Heights. “The Rebbe strongly emphasized the importance of making dignified weddings accessible locally, and the Rebbe encouraged community leadership to secure venues for this purpose,” said Rabbi Shneur Brook, administrator of Machne Israel and Keren Hachomesh, who was involved in developing and shaping the initiative. “In recent years, rising costs have pushed many weddings out of the neighborhood. This initiative seeks to ensure that couples once again have an attainable option to celebrate their wedding close to home, in a premier Crown Heights venue.”
Local Crown Heights institutions and Moisdois will continue to have access to the venue for communal events, subject to scheduling guidelines and limited blackout dates, Brook notes.
“Our ballroom has always been a community service,” said Rabbi Yehoshua Lustig, Menahel K’lali of Oholei Torah. “The Rebbe expressed his deep wish that Crown Heights be the place where chasunahs and all simchos are celebrated, with the assurance of ‘כאן צוה ה׳ את הברכה’. We are proud to be a driving partner in an initiative that eases financial pressure while preserving the dignity and beauty of every simcha, and we are fully committed to its success.”
The initiative will go into effect beginning Rosh Chodesh Sivan, with a dedicated booking website scheduled to launch in February. In the interim, all bookings for events taking place on or after Rosh Chodesh Sivan should be submitted via email to [email protected].
As Rabbi Yehuda Krinsky, Chairman of Machne Israel and vice president and treasurer of Keren HaChomesh, noted, “The Rebbetzin embodied elegance, dignity, and refinement in every aspect of her life. This initiative draws directly from that legacy — ensuring that affordability never comes at the expense of class, kavod, or beauty as young couples begin their lives together.”

This is so much appreciated. IYH!!! I can sleep at night without wondering how I am going to pay for weddings
why are you stressing not takonos? these communities make wedding not for half, but for a third or a quarter the price!!!
Have you been to any of those weddings? Many are very shvach. The point here is to lower the cost yet still keep the beauty and simcha of a wedding theere
I agree this is beautiful, but let’s be honest, your saving around 5k off regular prices, not half. Its a bit misleading. Everyone please do your own research! Also I would love if we have the option of cohen catering as well.
Curious how you make a wedding today for 34,500? Can you break it down? All the people I know who have made comparable weddings in OT have paid between 45-60k.
This “basic” package has around 5k of savings off regular prices.
The hall was 5k including kitchen rental.
The musician is $2500-$2700.
The flowers they are offering are 2k.
The pictures package is 5k right now anyways.
And the caterer is regular 20k.
So now your stuck with his caterer. His photographer etc and yes bh it’s a 5k savings (definitely is a help) but let’s not fool ourselves that it’s half off. Or CV turn others away from a “regular” wedding thinking it’s 60k for a basic! It’s no where near that…
Thank you for making it happen! It’s about time!! I would just suggest another choice for photography so there’s options
Pls try to include one more option!
This is so needed. It sounds like so much thought went into it. I can’t wait to all the details of the package.
No mashka for anyone under 21 with legal identity
Where did you see this
Hatzlacha
Heard about it from the grapevine . . . Kol HaKavod to everyone who made this happen. Special shout-out to Shneur Brook for his commitment and hard work seeing this through!
Shneur is actually the best!!
This is so long in coming , one of the best things that happened here in years! Kudos to all involved. But, I know they don’t want it to urge takana vibes etc but I’m sure many ppl will be ready to go for smaller options as well and save tons of heartache and debt. Not everyone needs 275 ppl at their weddings and the best flower decor etc. I am a regular guy in Crown Heights who would be happy to seat 150 ppl and significantly down scale any major expenses. Can we get another option for less than… Read more »
I think JCM can accommodate smaller Chasunos!
They have nice BarMitvah package maybe they can a little bit upgrade it for a boutique Chasunah package!
Very close to 770 and nice hall
There’s nothing shameful about a takana wedding. There’s nothing wrong with scaling down and making a simple wedding within your means.
Let’s stop letting fear of being thought a “rachmanus” keep us from making sound responsible financial decisions for our family.
It can be done for less, but you need to be willing to cut a few corners. One way to make it cheaper is to rent a smaller hall and get younger and less experienced vendors who charge less. You can likely make a wedding for 200 people for about 18-20 grand total, but you’ll have to get creative.
For smaller weddings, you can pay for a Bar Mitzvah package and include a few add-ons. If done properly, you might be able to make a wedding for a total of around 12-15 grand.
Thanks to all involved, its a good start. it would be nice if we can look at Williamsburg and Lakewood models, where the entire wedding can be had for 13-15,000 with diginity, even though its called “Takana wedding”.
This is definitely a blessing in all aspect of life
Great work!
Taking away competition and a fair chance for all vendors takes away any level of accountability for these vendors to provide quality services and competitive prices. I’m certain that the initiative is being done with the correct reasons, and that the vendors involved have the best interests at heart, but this is the way of the world.
Should be same menue and same decor ( different colors) will save the bill.
Make it like a build in hall like in queens /boropark and you don’t need anything but guests and photographers
No problem there, but should have the option of multiple vendors.
BH
I am so impressed! This is an amazing initiative! Kol Hakovod!
This sounds amazing. One suggestion would be more photography options, including supporting photographers from within our community
Can you please add another photography option?
Thank you for this great initiative!!
The Cohen brothers have been catering in OT forever. Not sure if u r doing the right thing by excluding them.
Probably they were given the choice to join for the discounted rate
I am sure they can be part of it if it’s financially worth it for them.
Agreed
Maybe they didn’t want to be included in this working for bottom rates?
Regardless, their food is amazing.
B”h We made 4 weddings with Kohen catering and we hope they will be one of the choices as caterer,
Need something for L’Chaims as well – we need to support the young couples and I wish they can rent some nice small cheap 1st year apartments as well.
CAY hall is only $650
Anshei Lubavitch has a lechaim package for around $3,500.
They have become mini weddings. I doubt the Rebbe would approve.
There’s also gifts for the chasan kalla, clothing, sheitels, transportation costs if the family is OOT, rental in ch for week of wedding, setting up apartment… I made the most frugal wedding possible and total expenses were $25,000
Care to share a breakdown of the expenses?
This is so helpful! Thank you to all those involved!
Oysh.
This is a beautiful initiative!!
Thank you! Thank you!
Nice to see this initiative
But I too would like to see cheaper options of vendors.
I don’t need high end florists and caterer.
Please include a lower package as well.
Thank you.
But it’s still crazy expensive no?
In other neighborhoods the cost of a takanah wedding hall is less than $20,000.
There have been respectable people from CH that went to Lakewood for a better priced wedding. Even with the travel time, and shlep, it was still cheaper to to get married in Lakewood.
In Lakewood there were philanthropists that built the hall with this intention and put money into it. (As well as a double hall which splits many of the costs in half)
This is quite impressive for something that’s coming only from vendors
Hall was build and part of OT
your making his point stronger, the lakewood building cost a few million to build and they charge 13k. this hall is already here. so besides for nightly maintenance, the only costs should be the vendors.
hey its america, people can charge whatever they would like, but if those other communities figured out a way to bring the costs down to 13-15k, we can probably get close to it. not saying this is a great initiative, because it is, and any discount is appreciated.
Thank you
This is tremendous, what a relief! A huge thank you to all of you for making this possible !
Congratulstions to everyone involved in arranging this amazing new initiative. I am sure the Rebbe is having so much nachas! I would like to remind the vaad that I did not read about one MAJOR issue in the article. I feel that both sides (machatanim) must sign a TZNIUS agreement. 1. Two entrances will be used upon entering the hall. One for men and one for ladies.(perhaps there should be a person by the entrance guiding the guests,as to which entrance should be used). The lobby must have a mechitza, to prevent mingling. There should never be any mixed dancing… Read more »
So go to Williamsburg. That’s insane.
Not everything is Williamsburg. Perhaps follow the Rebbe that you call yourself a chassid to. Or just make up your own rules
Read the Rebbe’s letters.
It is insane to have such things enforced when it should be natural for any chassid
Yes, Williamsburg weddings comply 100 percent with the laws of the shulchan aruch. We have the same “Code of Jewish Laws”. We may have different minhagim then them, but halachos are the same.
The halls should be more open not less. Not sure what version of shulchan aruch you have? People complain about “shidduch crisis” but then stop men/women from meeting. Simchos are a great time for Shidduchim and we should be doing more to encourage and facilitate it in a healthy manner. It’s a modern concept where singles sit separately, in early America even at gedolims weddings singles were mixed. May one simcha lead to the next!
There are other ways to arrange meeting of singles. For example “speed dating” our Shidduch house is definetly accomplishing a lot to help facilitate shidduchim. But mingling at a wedding will not be beneficial for anyone. I personally know of couples who were told by the Rebbe during their yechidus,” der chassunah zol zein in a chassidisher oifen”.
what is it
Early America was a time when standards were extremely low, and even most of the so-called “gedolim” were such only by comparison to the rest of America, צדיק היה בדורותיו. Even genuine gedolim had no control, and couldn’t do things the way they would have liked to, because no one would listen to them. Boruch Hashem standards have recovered to what was NORMAL throughout Jewish history.
The Rebbe said that mixed dancing even with family isnt allowed. its written down
I’m so moved by this initiative!!
First of all, I’m so grateful and thankful to all those involved in this revolutionary breakthrough. I’m so saddened that anyone here can find negative things to say about this initiative! It’s actually disgusting and I’m not gonna use expletives here but it’s exasperating that so many ppl are ungrateful! People spent many hours on this. Crunching the numbers, getting the contracts with vendors, finalizing which options will be included and which won’t based on each vendor. For all of you complainers, when you are ready to make a wedding how about you reach out to them to see what… Read more »
No one is trash talking anybody, they are saying thank you and are appreciative for at least doing something about it, nothing personal, they are just asking if there can possibly a more scaled back option even cheaper. As the whole Tekufa of weddings, starting with dating, Lchaim, prep for wedding, actual wedding, Sheva Brachos, prep for housing etc., is quite expensive. so just pointing out, if other communities figured out a way to make cheaper options, we should try as well. and than more people will keep the Chasunas in the community. Thank you for paying attention to this… Read more »
Are you able to hire Ahuva Fogelman as wedding coordinator/planner if you are taking the wedding package?
She should be included. She runs the wedding very well.
Kol Hakavod for making this happen. Can we do this now for Bar Mitzvas? Who needs these fancy Bar Mitzvas? Ridiculous money is being wasted.
Has a bar mitzvah package for $3500
why is any fancy bar mitzva party needed?
The Chicago community did this a few years ago, it’s all inclusive for under $30k including chuppah, up to 325 guests and the venue is gorgeous.
Amazing !
Thank you , organizers, for all your hard work!!!
Amazing
It’s scary to me how people can go and make a wedding for HALF the price of a normal one and PPL WILL STILL COMPLAIN!!!!
Last wedding we did not too long ago for same amount of guests came out a little over 35,000… Everything included. Not sure how this is HALF off. Not sure the details in this package, but a bit surprised to say 60,000 for a basic wedding.
If you hire a diff photographer – can you still be part of the takana PKG?
Or offer more options…. Why is CJ the only option?
Big shout out for Rabbi Shmaya Krinsky who has worked day and night to make this a reality
Kol hakovod
Every vendor was contacted with dignity to try and make this work. Let’s not judge and jump to any conclusions. Just be grateful that people put their heart & soul into making this happen.
If BH i dont need to use the package and i want to just rent the hall from OT can i bring in any vendors i want or is the hall exclusive to these vendors? Like catering muscian florist and photagrapher
This is amazing news and will bring much nachas to the Rebbe
Does this price include the Chupah
May i also suggests , Sadya Liberow is a phenomenal photographer and very good priced
Williamsburg all Chasunah 15K
Lower the hall rent
Many people might not be aware but ask people who made weddings 35/40 years ago. The Rebbe spoke strongly against making weddings out of crown heights
There’s not enough space. We only have two halls. Bh most days there are more than 2 engagements
Thank you so much for this!!
We had all been waiting for this!!
Can add options of vendors? Catering, photography? Ty Hatzlacha
I’m curious, how much have OT weddings been costing recently? I got married 13 years ago at OT and our wedding was 20k total. This seems like a jump up rather than down, though I know time has passed.
While the concept is well needed to make weddings cheaper, why isn’t the option of other caterers on here? The Cohen caterers have been serving the community for decades and to completely take away their main business is not right. Has that been thought about? Other party planners, photographers… just lost their income. People should have the ability to pick between a vendor they want tha will work within the confines govern — Table One or Cohen or any other caterer that will fit in the package.
Devora Leah
Maybe they didn’t want to sign up to the program.
Here, how about calling them and asking
They were not given the option or asked. I did ask the caterers.
BH we made few weddings @ Oholei Torah ballroom using Meir and Ben Zion Kohen Catering,
we would like to see them included in this beautiful wedding package.
Thank You!!
You know you’re doing something good when people complain.
Meir Chen did my son Barmitzva
He is excellent!! The food is delicious!!
Please include Meir Cohen in your idea
He is the Best !! And the food is in believable!!
C
I recently attended a Chasunah at JCM, & it was LOVELY! & Hashem BLESS Devorah Benjamin, who likely had to fund most, if not all of it! & unless it’s for kirov, there’s no dishonor in trimming the guest list, or even dining buffet style! & using a gemach for most things, (even silk flower arrangements) & a “no name” band! (Or even a one-man band, that (these days) has such a full sound! & the Cohen brothers have always worked w/ those on lower budgets, as has Eli Belinsky for photography. “Elegant” does NOT need to be expensive! &… Read more »
Devorah is wonderful. Please note there are others that fund quietly and should be highly regarded instead of being knocked down. Ask around as to whom and give generously to help those in need.
This is such a vital and beautiful initiative that is likely to relieve so many hard-working couples’s financial burdens while allowing people to make Baal Habatishe elegant simchas.
Yasher Koach!
So grateful thank you Shneur Brook!!!
It’s great that a package is finally coming to CH. After many years this community was the only one without a package has caused pricing to be out of control. Now some facts… After speaking to caterers and photographers i would like to clarify that as of now no one has been contacted with the option to join the package but rather everything was done quietly which raises quite a few questions: In BP, Williamsburg & Lakewood the packages range from $13500 to $20000 for the same amount of people. why can’t we have the same deal? Theirs include Catering,… Read more »
You are invited and encouraged to create an even cheaper option
Lakewood has different tiers
Everyone will thank you too
No worries
So so happy to hear!!!
To ensure that vendors do their best there needs to be competition. Also what if the one photography option is booked for that night?
please include another photographer option or 2 as well as an option for less guests.
this is an amazing initiative! lets do everything we can to make it work.
Thank you shneur for your many many hours you put into this .
I don’t know Shmaya Krinsky but I keep hearing from people on the street how they are being helped , time and time again in a quiet and dignified manner. The shameful critiques being posted here should also be accompanied with thanks for a person who saw an issue and stood up to the plate to create a solution. The lakewood packages are cheaper but so is their product and having already BH made three weddings (two in CH) this is a huge huge huge help. Yasher Koach Reb Shmaya , Shneur Brook and Oholei Torah for facilitating this and… Read more »
Happy to see Mendy kraus on package
Honestly the best musican in town
Yashar koach!
I’m hearing that even if you don’t want to use the package and you want to make a wedding in OT you need to use table one as he is getting exclusive rights to OT hall. How is that helping CH vendors if it’s exclusive rights?
This is literally saving Jewish homes, shalom bayis, sanity… incredible project
Can this be offered in Razag as well? Not everyone likes the style of the hall but many find Razag weddings to be so much more comfortable, clean and pleasant!
I hear that they are working at an even more affordable option.
Kol hakavod!
One good deed immediately brought another one!
We really appreciate it. But don’t understand how come only one caterer when you have a choice of almost everything. A lot of people did their weddings with the Cohen’s brothers and we’re very happy and want to continue
