A live grenade sent NYPD officers scrambling Wednesday after it was discovered in a Jewish home in Brooklyn’s Crown Heights neighborhood.
The shocking find was made by a local Jewish boy rummaging through his grandfather’s belongings, according to police.
“He was looking through some of the stuff in his drawers and found what seemed to be a grenade,” a police source told COLlive.com.
At first, the boy assumed it was a replica or a toy—but when he brought it home, he quickly realized the explosive was real and immediately dialed 9-1-1.
Officers and the NYPD bomb squad rushed to the home on Montgomery Street to secure the scene.
“Nobody is under arrest or anything at this time,” the police official said. “No one was hurt, and there was no foul play involved.”
Authorities are now investigating how the grenade ended up in the grandfather’s possession and whether it poses any further risk.
