19 year-old Lubavitch girl Yael Y. landed Wednesday in JFK in high spirits – it was her first time in the U.S.
The Israeli resident and her friends – who arrived to spend the Tishrei holidays – hailed a nearby livery cab service.
Arriving in Crown Heights, the driver left the four off in two stops and hurried off.
Minutes later Yael realized her most precious baggage was left in the taxi.
Among the valuables were her passport, $2000 cash and jewelry.
Her hosts – who contacted COLlive to warn future guests – has no way to track the driver down as Yael didn’t use an official Taxi service.
“We will contact the Israeli Embassy to cancel Yael’s passport and apply for a new one, and will go to the airport to search for the cab driver.
“You never know, he may still be picking up passengers at the same spot,” the hosts said.
Yael was left to cry. “I can’t believe this happened to me,” she tearfully exclaimed.
did she lose her “teudat zehut”
=( i don’t have enough word to say how sorry i feel for you yael!!!! and for those of you who didn’t figure it out yet, i think she knows what NOT to do now, she doen’t need people rubbing it in her face!!!!
GAM ZU LETOVA!!
it was just yom kipur 3 days ago
you should be more careful with the way you speak about other yidin (and not just right after y”k, the whole year, but at least right after y”k)
maybe you should apologize (just make a comment that it was a mistake etc.)
she should try to call 311 and give the time of day and the #of the cab she was in they have a service that with gps trax every cab all day and they can call the cab owner on his blackberrry rght away tro check if it’s in his cab, I heard the comissioner of transportation brag about this service on the radio a few months back
she hasn’t got a penny… remember???
In the end, she is safe & unhurt, unlike that poor girl very badly hurt by a hit & run drunk driver in Flatbush yesterday. It’s money & jewelry…these things can be replaced. B”H, she is OK. Upset & worried, but she will get over that. A broken body can’t always be fixed.
Reb Meir Baal Haness really works. Take this girl into Rabbi Sholom Duchman’s office on Eastern Parkway, and let her give Tzedokah and IYH she will have good news
Remember the old saying what goes around must around . Another old saying engage brain befor speaking (in this case posting a comment)
Try placing money in reb Meir Baal Haness. It works.
just because you dont care dosnt mean anyone else dosn’t want to help i want to help this girl besides who cares about what you lost she away from home and dosent have moniey to spend
youarerealmean!!!!!
why in the world is this news-worthy? haha.
i have lost my camera, memory sticks, cell phone, i lost my passport on a greyhound bus once i realized i was already home, hundreds of miles away from the bus…
collive stop posting such dumb stories, we don’t care.
this probably happened to at least 50 people coming for tishrei.
thx.

you are real mean
I am so sorry to have an opportunity like this to “sell” wisdom and be clever. Yes, we can rather forgive the others than our own mistakes. It is not a positive approach to torture yourself and I think the first thing you should do is not to blame yourself. It can happen to anybody. I hope, only once, if not at all. I understand that the value of the jewels is irreplaceable when they are precious gifts or unique/artistic examples. Think like this: you are hungry and moneyless in a strange foreign place where all shops are fulfilled with… Read more »
“I can’t believe this happened to me,” she tearfully exclaimed.
Yael, we all feel for you, but remember this, it didn’t happen to you. YOU left it in the cab. I would rather have heard, “Oh, I can’t beleive I was so careless as to leave my most valuable piece of luggage in the cab!”
was a box made to collect money for the unfortunate girl??
if it hasn’t it should be made!!!
its a shame she had to learn a lesson the hard way…..
All this talk about a relatively common occurence, raises the question: Will this get into the Guiness book of Records?
BTW: A Yellow Cab driver would simply say he did not see anything like that. “Maybe the next passenger took it – I don’t have eyes in the back of my head to see everything. It happens every day without my knowing…”
oh why does it happen
man, you’re mean!
good lesson maybe they should stay in israel spend their 2 grand there instead of at conway….. they make crown heights look like a chicken market…..
she should contact the police and port authority
It will certainly be very nice for us to help her, especially since the $2000.00 were probably hard earned, and that probably she spend a long time earning it!
I too hope she will have a wonderful time and I also hope she will gain so much b’ruchnius anyways. (Hopefully b’gashmius too!!)
so maybe you will be the one to sponsor a couple hundred dollers its not alot
i never comment but i had to on this. i am amazed at the hearts of the ppl who thought of replacing the money and the ones who are willing to give. my heart is warm right now.
Give us a place to send money to, so that we can help this person out – PLEASE!
Always check you have the correct # of bags when you leave the cab. Don’t pay the driver till you & your stuff are out. And be careful to put your wallet away before you pay him. It’s a shame this happened, but we can all learn a lesson. I’ll give some $$ to replace her cash. If someone wants to make a donation box in a store on Kingston I’ll drop some cash in tomorrow. Knowing the generosity of the people here it’ll soon exceed the $2000 she lost. In which case, the rest can be given to Rabbi… Read more »
evreybody just stop arguing
I feel so very bad for her. i was brought up, as were many of my friends and acquaintances that if you lose something, you should be menader to give tzedakah in multiples of 9.
Yael, I hope you find your valuables and that you can still have a wonderful yom tov.
Step 2: Money. Can some rich gevir in Cr Hts give this poor girl a few hundred to comfort her? It’s no big deal. Here’s where chesed talks.
to #3
Why talk like that. Why talk like that. Why talk like that. Why talk like that..Why talk like that. Why talk like that. Why talk like that. Why talk like that. Why talk like that.
get the point yet!!!!!
why does there always need to be a mean comment, can one say something nice in a while????????
some lessons are best learnt the hard way
I myself never would use those cabs, I always use the official taxis. They are so much more reliable. She’ll never get her stuff back!
but the message is clear – don’t take chapers, even if they offer you cheaper service – which they don’t
nebach. i hope she finds it.
