Rivkie Heber Barber. the very name rings with exuberance and laughter. It tingles with warmth and exudes strength, intelligence, and quiet resolve.
Rivkie’s is the story of a beautiful life cut down in its prime. Of challenges and pain overcome with aplomb and dignity.
Rivkie was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, daughter, sister. She was a charming friend. She was a stalwart shlucha- humble soldier of the Rebbe. She and her husband Rabbi Yanky Barber, sheyichye, were respected by and invested in their Melbourne Jewish community. The magnitude of Rivkie’s impact is yet to be told.
Desperately, we, her classmates – Bais Rivkah graduating class of 82 – banded together with Tehillim and Torah study. Tearfully we begged Hashem for a Refuah shlayma. Alas, it was not to be.
Wit and Wisdom is our gift to Rivkie- and hers to us. It will be an ongoing email with open subscription which will initially be sent daily from Monday-Friday until the end of Shloshim.
Through this email we hope to remember the beautiful blend of her personality – laughter and inspiration rolled into one.
The daily email will include a daily joke and a short inspirational thought on one of five rotating topics. These topics include, Parenting, Emunah, Jewish Womanhood, Ahavas Yisroel and Parshas Hashavua.
Anyone is welcome to join the mailing list. Click here to join. The project will iyh be rolled out this Wednesday.
Through the messages of joy, Torah, and sweet memories we hope to keep Rivkie with us until the coming of Moshiach.

A big THANK YOU to Rivkie’s classmates. Rivkie A”H had a wonderful rapport with everyone she met. The nurses wanted her on their rosters. One of her co-workers wrote to me “I feel like I had a special relationship with Rivkie, but her true gift I believe was that she made everyone feel that way.” She was love, laughter, wit, warmth. We were blessed. Brocha Chana Metzger
