With summer quickly approaching, CGI Central opened registration for its 2nd annual Camp Training Conference. Growing on last year’s maiden conference this year the program will strive to do the same and more.
The conference will gather staff from both day camps and overnight camps, bochurim and girls (in separate locations) for a full day conference. Staff join together in spirited camaraderie and learn tools and skills to be more successful in their role as a staff member.
Taking place in Crown Heights on Thursday, June 20 – Tammuz 12, the conference will offer staff a chance to get into the camp spirit right before heading off for the summer.
Last year 41 day camps and the three largest boys overnight camps participated, totaling over 500 staff. With more than 200 Camp Gan Israel day camps and 10 overnight camps in North America alone, the organizers say they are “looking to significantly increase the amount of participants this, our second, year,” said Rabbi Shlomie Rabin, Director of CGI Central.
The goal of the conference is to empower staff through engaging presentations on the fundamentals related to camp staffing.
Topics include:
Hashkafa- Goal and mission statement of camp
Bullying and social exclusion awareness and prevention
Professionalism – a way of being
Abuse and molestation awareness and prevention
Keynote: Building Better Children – How to teach campers good choices and outstanding life skills
When the schedule changes last minute – having to “do more with less”
Benzion Shemtov, Director of Operations at CGI Central said, “we are excited about this year’s great lineup of speakers.”
The conference is a real resource for camp directors. “On a personal level I really appreciate the opportunity CGI Central provides in training my staff through such a quality program,” said Mrs. Chana Devora Solomon – Director of CGI Morristown.
The keynote speaker, Michael Brandwein, is a nationally known educator, speaker and bestselling author of five camp related books. After being a real hit last year, with his captivating presentation and practical “easy to really do” approach, he is returning as the keynote this year on the topic of “Building Better Children.”
It’s a great opportunity for past participants as well. Esti Krasnianski, a staff member from Silver CGI in Long Beach, CA participated in last year’s conference, said she is “excited to come back for this year’s conference. Having learned so much, I’m looking forward to reviewing and learning even more.”
