These lawn signs are putting children’s lives at risk.
We’ll go over the dangers of these signs, as well as what you can do to avoid them.
The more signs a building has, the more information a perpetrator may get about its target audience. Even bumper stickers can aid in your targetability.
What does a lawn sign convey to perpetrators?
Many proud parents have highlighted their children’s accomplishments by placing signs on the front lawn during the height of COVID-19 with photos of their kids.
Where is the chance of something going wrong? This may sound innocent, but any perpetrator who’d prey on children would be able to drive past and gather images and information right from your front lawn.
How tough is it to extract information from a person’s home using open-source information? According to a counterterrorism analyst, not too hard. Actually, after you turn 18 years old, your information becomes more public. Therefore, it is possible for someone in a vehicle to approach your child and claim, “I know your father so-and-so, I know where you live, etc.” because that information is available online.
Today, children can be targeted in a variety of ways and making so much open-source data available to the public comes with its own set of dangers.
It makes you question, is it an intelligent idea to display your child’s school (yard sign or bumper sticker) in a public place where you have no control over who sees it?
As long as you have a public Facebook page, you’re still exposing that information to the general public. However, you can at least limit who can see it if you set your Facebook page to private (highly recommended).
By understanding the basic principles above, as well as limiting who can see your personal information on a public street and online, we can better deter opportunists from taking action

Check your tefilin and mezuzas
I think everyone should be aware but I refuse to live in constant fear
The author did not say anything about constant fear. Rather, SPECIFICALLY awareness.
And we may as well make a ‘Keili’ to help deter negative things from happening
Grateful you left where?
Thank you
Thank you so much for sharing this important information.
It’s difficult to switch gears,…. and recognize the facts of living in 2022.
I am grateful that you cared enough to post this most relevant information.
Decades ago in Los Angeles, where people were still outraged by crime, everyone was on alert due to a serial killer. We attended workshops sponsored by LAPD and their advice was “don’t advertise “. Who you are, where you live, where you are going, what you have, etc. we can apply this to safety signs, honor roll bumper stickers, school attire, etc. I agree with the person who said he will not live in fear but I think we should consider the signs and tokens we display and ask if we really need to advertise.
It’s called OSINT (Open-source intelligence).
People should also start caring more about their privacy online. If you use social media and post stuff all over and don’t care anyone who wants to target you can and not that hard. With YouTube and google these days anything can be found how to do.
