Celebrating community, renewal, and a spirit of giving, Chabad of Sola recently hosted its Women’s Wellness Event, a fundraiser supporting the shul’s new building and mikva project.
Founded 18 years ago by Rabbi Avraham and Stery Zajac, Chabad of Sola began with just a few families in the Pico-Robertson area and has grown to a thriving community of over 200 families. The long-anticipated Sola JCC building project, the biggest Jewish building project in Los Angeles, is now entering its final stages and is expected to be completed within the next 6–12 months. The building will also include a state-of-the-art women’s mikva which will be the first women’s mikva in the neighborhood, giving local families convenient access, especially on Friday nights.
To get them to the finish line, The Women’s Wellness Event centered on the Jewish woman and the new mikva, was born. Held in honor of Vov Tishrei, the yahrzeit of Rebitzen Chana, the event featured an inspiring panel of women experts in mental health, positivity, relationships and women’s health, including Dr. Karen Toubi, Ms. Aliza Shapiro, and Mrs. Rona Lalezary.
The evening began with an open bar and gourmet bites as the women explored their personal palettes with professional color analysts and indulged in the calming magic of aromatherapy.
Conversations flowed as guests mingled among luxurious massage stations, all while enjoying a captivating live violin performance that set an elegant tone for the night.
A highlight of the evening was the launch of a unique tzedaka initiative through the new tzedaka app called candlepushka, designed to give your tzedaka immediately before candle lighting. The connection of the mitzvah of tzedakah to lighting Shabbos candles was apropos to the spirit of the women’s gathering.
Over 100 women attended the event, with more than 60 committing to weekly contributions through the app, marking a meaningful step forward in supporting Chabad of SoLa’s growing community and its new center.
“This event beautifully combined wellness, spiritual reflection, and community engagement,” said Rabbi Avraham Zajac. “It was inspiring to see so many women come together to support our new home and mikva, ensuring that Chabad of Sola continues to flourish for generations to come.”
