Just a month ago, the team behind AsktheRav.com, a halacha answering service overseen by Rabbi Yosef Braun, announced the dedication of their much used and loved platform in memory of our unforgettable Mara D’Asra – Rabbi Yaacov Schwei obm.
Today, the creators are explaining why they founded the website, and its vital need in the Chabad community.
“When I came here originally, I realized the phone was not an option,” Rabbi Yosef Braun, Rov of the Crown Heights community says. “People keep on asking the same question, so many people can’t get through, some get cut off in middle, some forget a detail…on Erev Yom Kippur I could answer the same question again and again.”
Email also wasn’t practical, Rabbi Braun says, as so many emails poured in daily, it became impossible to answer them all.
So AsktheRav.com, a website database of questions and answers was born.
To date, says Rabbi Levi Goldgrab, founder and admin of AsktheRav.com, “we have gotten over 8,500 questions submitted, over 1,500 questions and answers, with extensive Mareh Mekomos on our website, all backed by a team of 20 dedicated Rabbonim and Meshivim, all backed by Rabbi Braun.”

Now, they are asking for the public’s support of the vital initiative, visited by thousands every month, and over 3,500 people during the height of the coronavirus pandemic.
“We turned to you, our valued users, to partner in the great work we do and the greater work we desire to achieve, by broadening our activities,” the said.
“Baruch Hashem, and thank you, for the tremendous response from our community.
“Please consider upgrading your partnership to a monthly one. Even a small consistent partnership goes a very long way,” they said.
Their goal is to have at least 1000 of their users join as active members by Shavuos.
“We ask you, please help us enable you to AskTheRav, and become a member,” they said.
