The Rebbe later said that when he got up that morning he had the feeling that today he will receive the bad news about the histalkus of his father.
The Rebbe, therfore, did not go to his place of work (at that time, in the Brooklyn Navy Yard) and went straight to his room in 770.
In the story I also mention that when the bochurim knocked on the Rebbe’s door the Rebbe opened the door immediately as he was standing near the door waiting for them. SB
