Inspired by a story shared at the Shifra & Puah 5784 Dinner, a group of friends followed the same act of kindness — and witnessed a miracle unfold with striking precision nine months later.
WATCH: They Followed Avi Ben Shlomo’s Deed — and Nine Months Later, History Repeated Itself
It began with a story shared from the stage — and concluded with a miracle that unfolded with striking precision.
At the Shifra & Puah 5784 Dinner held two years ago, singer Avi Ben Shlomo addressed the audience and shared a deeply personal experience. After waiting several years for a yeshuah, Avi and his wife made a heartfelt decision to sponsor the care of a new mother through Shifra & Puah, donating $770 — the amount associated with “adopting a mother.”
As part of the campaign, Avi participated in the donor raffle and won a silver becher embedded with a coin from the Rebbe. What followed, however, was far more significant than the prize itself. Exactly nine months later, their son was born — a moment Avi described as an open and undeniable miracle.
The story resonated deeply throughout the room. For one attendee, it became a call to action.
A Decision Made in the Moment
Among those present was Miri, a Crown Heights resident. As she listened, her thoughts immediately turned to her close friend Chani (name changed).
The two women had once been pregnant at the same time. While Miri celebrated the birth of her son, Chani tragically experienced a stillbirth just one month later. Time passed, yet Chani was still waiting to be blessed again.
That evening, Miri resolved to act. She gathered her close circle of friends — affectionately known as “The Brazilians” — and together they pooled their resources to reach the same $770 amount, sponsoring a mother exactly as Avi Ben Shlomo had done, with Chani in mind.
“Let the Bracha Be Hers”
A few days later, the group was notified that they had won the Grand Raffle — a unique, leather-bound siddur embedded with a piece of fabric from Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka.
When the siddur arrived at Miri’s home, the moment was deeply emotional. In a video released by Shifra & Puah this week, she recalls quietly holding the siddur and speaking from the heart.
“I said to the Rebbe: ‘Rebbe, we gave the $770 just like Avi Ben Shlomo. Please give Chani a bracha. Even if the siddur belongs to all of us, let the bracha be hers.’”
Miri then called Chani and told her simply:
“The siddur is here — but the Rebbe’s bracha is yours.”
Together, they placed a request for a bracha through Igros Kodesh. The answer they opened spoke of simcha and tuv levav — joy and gladness of heart. They felt a quiet certainty that their tefillos had been accepted.
A Miracle, Repeated
What followed was nothing short of remarkable.
Exactly nine months later, mirroring Avi Ben Shlomo’s story down to the timing itself, Chani gave birth to a healthy baby boy.
The parallel was unmistakable — a powerful reminder of a truth deeply rooted in Jewish life:
When one takes care of Hashem’s children, He takes care of theirs.

Who got to keep the siddur prize? Sounds like “the Brazilians” chipped in. Do they rotate using the siddur?
The Brazilians raffle it between of them, and Miri won, but she gave it as a gift to Chani.
