Rabbi Shais Taub recently visited Avi Fishoff’s program for parents of children in crisis. They were told that Rabbi Taub would share parenting insights with them. What they did not expect was that he would tell them that he had just conducted a personal experiment over the past several months learning how to win the trust of two feral cats. “The amora Rav said he spent 18 months apprenticing a shepherd in order to learn about different kinds of blemishes in animals. I’m here to tell you the psychological insights I learned from winning the trust of two street cats.”
Taub proceeded to explain that when dealing with people who are emotionally dysregulated, the words we use are not as important as other signals that can either cause distress or put the other person at ease. “People are polite. They don’t tell you when you are stressing them out. These cats taught me exactly what things make another living being feel relaxed and comfortable.”

Love this presentation . After l.lost my husband my 2 indoor cats were my prozac and remain so to this day. It’s been about 2 years now. During the last few months of my husband’s life they sat by him while he was in bed and never left his side as if they knew his days were numbered . My cats were newborn ferals now 7 years old. The middots of patience cleanliness and modesty are exemplary
The black and white cat has his ear tip clipped. This means he was captured and neutered and then dumped back out. No wonder he doesnt trust people
