Simchas torah תרנ”ט was 1898. not 1987 (as displayed in the video) and not 1899 (as in the title of the article). Either way, the story happened on Simchas Torah תרנ”ח which was 1897. And anyone can relate that story, as old as this man was, he wasn’t born yet (he was born Elul 1899).
