A special Jewish blessing was bestowed upon President Donald Trump during a campaign event for Orthodox Jews that took place at the Intercontinental Hotel in New York City on Tuesday.
Trump, widely seen as a pro-Israel president, received a standing ovation when he walked into the banquet hall to attend a luncheon that only served kosher meals.
The event gathered Jewish donors to the Trump campaign, who paid $25,000 per couple to attend. It was arranged and coordinated by philanthropist Louis (Lazer) Scheiner of Monsey, NY.
Upon the president’s entrance, Rabbi YY Jacobson, a popular lecturer and teacher of Torah, recited the blessing “Boruch Ata Hashem… shenosan m’kvodo l’bosor v’dom.” The blessing is said on a gentile head of state who rules according to the law and has the power of life and death.
The crowd responded with a loud “Amen” to the blessing, echoing the warm support Trump has within the Orthodox Jewish community in New York City and across the United States.
During his remarks, the President spoke about his support for Israel, and moving the embassy to Jerusalem as well as his recognizing of the Golan Heights.
President Trump lamented the fact that “75 percent of Jews in the US are liberal,” and said he appreciated the support of the 25 percent of Jews.
The purpose of the event, which was not backed by any Jewish organization, is being held for the purpose of thanking the President for what he has done for Klal Yisroel and Israel, COLlive.com was told.
