Three hundred and fifty people filled the Mill Hill Synagogue hall on Sunday night at a gala dinner to pay tribute to Rabbi Yitzchak and Chanie Schochet who have been on Shlichus in their community for twenty-five years.
Britain’s Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis spoke about the Schochets remarkable achievements in transforming the community from just four hundred families to now well in excess of a thousand.
Lord Michael Levy also spoke of Rabbi Schochet’s weekly speeches and shiurim which draw in hundreds, and Chanie Schochet’s welfare programmes that have impacted so many throughout the community.
John Bercow, Speaker of the House of Commons of the United Kingdom, also paid tribute via video link.
Addressing the crowd, Rabbi Schochet mentioned that the community boasted more children under the age of twenty than any other individual community in the UK, and likely by extension in all of Europe.
Mrs. Schochet spoke about the impact the Rebbe had on her life, already at the age of twelve, when he instructed her about the importance of tzedaka and to be sure to express it daily. “That is the impetus for everything I do,” she said.
A tribute video was shown featuring family and friends from around the world and a comical live interview with the couple also took place with renowned comedian Ashley Blaker.

Was in school with you. So proud of what you’ve achieved. Beautiful and radiant inside and out.
