While families around the world celebrated the joyous holiday of Pesach, one family was struck by an unspeakable tragedy. On Thursday of Chol Hamoed, a devastating car accident claimed the life of beloved Chabad Shliach, Shmuel Baruch Haviv, just 30 years old.
The accident occurred suddenly and tragically. Shmuel was killed on the spot. His wife, Dina, sustained serious injuries, and their one-year-old son, Mendy, was also critically injured.
In an instant, their entire world was shattered.
Shmuel was well known and deeply cherished in his community. He lived a life of true purpose – one of light, love, and unbounded giving. With a warm smile and unshakable faith, he touched hundreds, if not thousands, of lives – from close friends to strangers he met along the way.
Those who knew him describe him as a rare soul – a true shliach, a loyal friend, a devoted husband and father. His heart beat for others just as much as it did for himself.
“When Shmuel walked into a room, he brought light with him,” shared a close friend. “He didn’t need to say a word – his presence alone uplifted everyone around him. He was always there for others – now it’s our turn to be there for him.”
But now, that light has been extinguished.
What remains is a painful void.
The sorrow is immense, but the challenge that lies ahead is even greater. Dina, his wife, is now in a battle to physically and emotionally recover. Their baby boy, Mendy, will grow up without ever truly knowing the extraordinary man his father was.
“He gave his all – now it’s our turn.”
In response, family and friends of Shmuel have launched a heartfelt campaign to support Dina and Mendy and help them rebuild their lives.
The goal: to raise funds to cover medical care, therapy, rehabilitation, and essential needs – and ultimately to help this broken family stand back on their feet when they return home.
“This is the time to be ambassadors of Shmuel’s legacy,” said those close to him. “He devoted every breath to others – now, more than ever, his family needs us.”
The Chabad community and the broader public are opening their hearts – but the road ahead is long. The family, together with friends and supporters, is calling upon the wider public: every person can make a difference. Every donation – big or small – is a gesture of love. A message of solidarity. A ray of light in this dark time.
Let’s reach out. Let’s stand by their side.
There is no way to fill the void. No words can truly comfort. But actions can bring change.
In times of darkness – we can become partners in bringing light.
Now is the time to give hope.
Now is the time not to leave them alone.
