A new Sefer Torah was dedicated Sunday in Whitefield, England, in memory of Rabbi Yehuda Yaakov Refson OBM, the senior Chabad Shliach and Dayan in Leeds.
The Torah was dedicated by the Chabad of Whitefield community, led by Shluchim Rabbi Shmuli and Sora Jaffe (nee Refson).
Communities from Leeds, Manchester and beyond united for this special occasion. The Torah was completed and led through the streets with singing and dancing.
Rabbi Refson served as the Rebbe’s Shliach in Leeds, England, for decades, and also served as the head of the regional Beth Din of Leeds, England.
He led the Shomrei Hadas Synagogue in Leeds, and along with his wife, Ettel served as co-directors of the Leeds Menorah School. He passed away on 27 Adar, 5780.

You guys are the best.
What a stunning sefer torah
I spy a certain Principal @RabbiMendelCohen
As Av Beis Din, Dayan Refson interacted with my late father a lot. When my father was zoche to get Kois Shel bracha a photo was taken, which he showed off with great pride to Dayan Refson.
Apparently, Dayan Refson was impressed and said that in all the times he had been to the Rebbe, he had never had a photograph.
Dayan Refson is missed by the entire community and everyone who knew him. This is an appropriate tribute.
