In the past few years, Crown Heights has seen an overflow of visitors from Israel during the week of Chanukah, residents have reported.
While residents are generally happy to host to crowds of visitors throughout the year, whether during the Kinus Hashluchim, Kinus HaShluchos, Tishrei, or numerous other occasions, some residents have found it frustrating when trying to visit 770 Eastern Parkway for the nightly Menorah lighting.
“Last year, the Shul was so packed every night of Chanukah, I couldn’t get in or bring my children to enjoy the Menorah lighting,” one woman said. “Crown Heights families deserve to be a part of the 770 lighting as well.”
With a number of residents asking the Shul’s Vaad Hamesader to make arrangements for locals to be able to attend the lighting with their families, the Vaad Hamesader has decided to implement the “Tishrei system” for the days of Chanukah.
The first Shul, known as the Mizrach Shul, in the Eastern Parkway women’s Shul is designated for guests.
The second and third Shuls are designated for Crown Heights residents.
The first two rows in each Shul are designated as a “children only zone” for children under Bas Mitzvah.
Parents are asked not to accompany children in this zone, which is only for children who can be there alone. Children who need an adult with them should remain in the adult rows.
The Kingston Shul is open to all.
The Vaad Hamesader requests that both visitors and residents respect this system in order that an inspiring and enjoyable holiday is had by all.
While I disagree with how many Israelis act in crown heights… The way they manage to afford tickets to crown heights is bc they save up all year for it!! Yes they may act wrong… But if we try to be more understanding of where they are coming from – saving money all year to come, their only time they get to be in 770 Bais Chayenu and have this time of connection in this way, and yes the language barier is also difficult for them! No I’m not Israeli 😉 just wish as Lubavitch chassidus we could all live… Read more »
Bad idea, I have not seen an Isreali person yet follow any changes when it comes to 770, it just wont happen
Mincha should be at 3:25
Lightning at 3:35/40
A freilechen Chanukah
It’s quite obvious that we one has the right Hiskashrus & comes to the REBBE they are Zoche to the Rebbe’s Brochos B’Gashmeus & Ruchnius.
They come here and collect. Every time I walk on Kingston Avenue during Tishrei, I am stopped and asked for Tzedakah from the guests.
Where do they get the money from? We keep hearing how poor everyone is in Israel, yet they all have money to fly back & forth, not to mention shopping in Century 21, J&R and Macy’s. Something is wrong with this picture.
I hate to be a pesamist but no Israeli guest will follow this “tishrei system” because they want to enjoy the menora lighting by the rebbe the way they want and sit where ever that want.
Good luck enforcing this. After getting trampled leaving after yizkor by our polite guests getting back to their seats, I stopped even trying to get into 770 during holidays.
