Every year in honor of Rosh Hashanah, there are families that are brought down to army bases all across Israel to bring the Yom Tov spirit to our soldiers. They lead the davening, meals, as well as other holiday programs.
NGIDF is an organization that helps ensure that soldiers of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) can experience the Yom Tov environment. They are running a campaign before Rosh Hashanah to help bring families down with Rosh Hashanah packages and materials so that each soldier regardless of religious background can experience the New Year with joy, fulfillment, and inspiration.
Yom Tov is a time when most people can pause their duties from work or school to spend time with their families in a holiday environment. However, soldiers in the IDF have a mission that requires them to remain on base or on patrol during Yom Tov. Despite them not being able to celebrate with their families, we all have the ability to bring Yom Tov to them on base.
NGIDF’s goal is for soldiers to never be alone. On Yom Tov and holidays when soldiers are on duty, NGIDF sends families to army bases for Rosh Hashanah and other holidays to do activities with them and bring a full-on Yom Tov experience to them. Our brothers and sisters of the IDF are out in all areas of Israel to make sure their fellow Jews are safe. Since they are constantly working to protect us, this is an opportunity for us to be there for them in return.
It’s very encouraging and empowering for soldiers who can’t go home for Yom Tov to have the holiday brought to them. Even soldiers from all walks of life who don’t necessarily celebrate Yom Tov at home can now do it in a way they never did so before in their life. Frum families go to the army bases all across Israel to bring the Yom Tov spirit to our soldiers year-round. People can uplift a soldier’s Yom Tov experience by sponsoring a soldier, a few soldiers or even an entire platoon or an entire base for Rosh Hashanah. Packages includes a machzor, pomegranate, an apple and honey and a shofar. They also will receive material to read about Yom Tov to enhance their experience.
NGIDF relies on donations year-round, but particularly now before the New Year they are running a campaign for Rosh Hashanah. Every person can make a difference and bring another smile to a fellow soldier. Please donate generously at NGIDF.org
