The Chidon Stars of Los Angeles

For months, the sight of clusters of girls studying the Rambam on their own time has been a normal occurrence in Los Angeles.

With the excitement of last year’s incredible program to motivate the girls and their friends, more than 50 girls joined the endeavor to study for the Chidon Sefer Hamitzvos 5778.

As the date approached, the excitement grew. All of the girls worked hard, and to honor this special involvement in the Rebbe’s inyan the school organized a practice Chidon so that everyone could shine even if they weren’t a finalist.

Rabbi Shlomo Cunin, head Shliach to the West Coast, spoke to the girls about the zechus that they have and how they are bringing Moshiach. “I wonder if the bachurim years ago in Bais Medrash would have been able to explain the mitzvos the way you are doing today…!” He also prepared the girls for their visit to the Rebbe.

Rabbi Sholem Heidingsfeld ran the practice Chidon as the girls had a chance to go up with a team of mixed classes on stage. They were given 2 minutes to list mitzvos in a certain category and all were very impressed with the results.

In honor of Rabbi Cunin’s legendary commitment to mivtza tefillin, he asked the girls to come up with any mitzvos that are related to Tefillin. Within moments, girls came up with details such as the Kohen Gadol’s tzitz and a Zaken Mamreh.

Rabbi Danny Yiftach, the director of BCM and Bais Rebbe, presented each girl with a certificate of achievement for her dedication to the study of Rambam.

The girls were also given time to write Panim to the Rebbe that were brought to New York with them.

With the Rebbe’s brachos the girls made it safely on switched flights to JFK despite the storms and are proudly wearing snow caps that they received from the school… “Chidon Stars of Los Angeles!”

May the achdus of the learning bring Moshiach immediately as the Rebbe states in connection with this mivtzva.
