Lord David Young, who served as Margaret Thatcher’s Minister of Trade and Industry for five years, addressed a Chabad Boardroom Forum in Johannesburg this week on a variety of current affairs issues.
At the event organized by Rabbi Dovid Masinter of Chabad House of Johannesburg, Lord Young described how although Thatcher rarely accepted excuses for non-attendance at cabinet meetings, the one exception she always allowed for was Jewish religious holidays.
Lord Young believes that it is beneficial for everyone to be active in some form of charity work, not only for its own sake, but so too for the fortunate by-products involved, such as meeting people one otherwise would not have met, broadening one’s networking capabilities and creating innovative and potentially untapped business opportunities.
