Texas Hosts a Regional Kinus

Close to 50 Shluchim attended the Southern Regional Kinus Hashluchim which was held in Houston, Texas, in the beginning of the week and included discussions, lectures and farbrengens.

It was the first time since 1990 that the conference was held there, noted the Houston Chronicle.

Attendees came from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, North Carolina, Puerto Rico, South Carolina and from across Texas, under the leadership of Head Shliach Rabbi Shimon Lazaroff.

Although Florida, which has more than 100 Chabad rabbis compared to about 30 in Texas, hosts more than its share of conferences, a “major extension” to the central Chabad building in Houston helped it secure a successful bid, said Rabbi Chaim Lazaroff, director of the Chabad of Uptown.

“Not everybody is scrambling to host, or wishing it would come to their city, but it’s an honor to host all these people from around the region and to showcase our Chabad house (and) our city,” he told the Houston Chronicle.

Addressing the Kinus were Rabbi Moshe Kotlarsky, Vice Chairman of Merkos L’inyonei Chinuch; Head Shliach of Florida Rabbi Avrohom Korf and Rabbi Sholom Ber Lipskar, leader of The Shul of Bal Harbor in Florida.
