Over 93 ladies from Sydney’s Young N’Shei and Women in Unity convened at Bondi’s Nefesh Shul last week to mark Purim Katan, one of 58 Hakhel events taking place around the world.
The guest speaker, Rabbi Aron Moss, shared moving stories and provided chizuk on the topic, ‘The Situation in Eretz Yisrael.’ Participants were privileged to hear his thoughts and inspirational anecdotes, reinforcing the strength, endurance, and power of Eretz Yisrael.
MC and coordinator Mrs. Shternie Althaus moderated the event with class and finesse, introducing the evening’s speakers. The evening was opened with Tehillim said by Mrs. Rochel Blasenstein, Ziva Richter and Devorah Niassof.
Rivka Schapiro spoke about the community’s warmth and support during her mother Bonita’s A”H illness, and the introduction of a community-wide Tehillim Whatsapp group since her untimely passing last year. Thousands of perakim of Tehillim are said weekly by the “Tehillim for Moshiach” Whatsapp group.
Shoni Nagel represented the Mizrachi community at the event, providing poignant words, entertainment, and inspiration on the topic of prayer. She expressed how much the community’s prayers mean to her and her young daughter, Libby, who is courageously battling an illness. Libby is a strong little girl and BH doing very well thanks to everyone’s prayers and brochos. We wish her a refuah shleima!
Topics covered by the ladies included the exciting story of Avigail Hasofer’s journey back to Judaism, Chabad of Atlanta guiding her on her true path back to observance, and eventually to Australia. Sydney’s amazing chesed was seen in the successful meal delivery for new moms; an activity organized, and presented on the night, by Galit Gershowitz. Words of thanks were given to the community for their tremendous support for fellow families.
Ladies were treated to a musical performance by Mrs. Avigail Hasofer, and an impressive assortment of light refreshments and drinks.
We thank Mrs Rochel Blasenstein, Malka Baila Wilansky, and Ziva Richter for all their help. We are very grateful to Shternie Althaus for organizing such a wonderful and successful event!
The Sydney community is excited to come together again, at the upcoming N’Shei Chabad, ‘The Great Purim Dance Party’ event, taking place March 19!
Yes it was Chabad of Alabama. They nurtured my soul and taught me Torah, showed me kindness and so much love. Then Hashem sent to Melbourne, Australia to another group of loving nurturing group of people. Now He moved me to Sydney to share the love I was given. It is humbling and my heart is filled with gratitude.
What a beautiful event!!
My dear friend’s journey started in Chabad of Alabama, with the Posner and Friedman families and our wonderful community. We claim her as one of us that’s dearly missed.

May you continue to be a shining example and inspiration to the rest of the world. I am confident that you have made the Rebbe proud and may all the organisers and participants be blessed with long life, health and joy till we all very soon merit the ultimate Hakhel gathering with Moshiach in Yerusholayim.
