A young Jewish boy with special needs was recently the victim of a shocking suspected hate crime at his public school in the Las Vegas area.
The visibly Jewish 17-year-old is on the autistic spectrum, and is a student at Clark High School, where he attends regular classes and has a full-time shadow to assist him.
The teen, who is nonverbal and attends school with a service dog, returned home on March 9th with a Swastika carved on his back, his mother, who wishes to remain anonymous, told COLlive.com.
“My son is the only student I know of who wears a Kippah at the school,” his mother said. She said she noticed her son’s shocking injury that evening.
The boy’s mother said that she notified the school about the injury by email that night, but was told by her son’s shadow that “nothing happened at school,” she relates. The mother also discovered her son’s service dog’s equipment bag had been broken and resewn.
The following Monday, March 13th, the family filed a report with the Clark County School District Police.
The distressed mother says that the school does not allow video cameras in classrooms, locker rooms or bathrooms, so there is no video of the alleged incident. She says she has pulled her son out of the school “because it’s an unsafe environment.”
The FBI is currently investigating the incident as a suspected hate crime, YNet news reported.
The Israeli-American Council (IAC) recently reported an increase in the number of complaints from Israeli-American students regarding antisemitic incidents in schools throughout the United States.
Sick!!!!!!
May this boy and family have Bracha and the perpetrator punished
Enough already
Absolutely vile and horrendous.
Things that have been happening are really one step away from who knoows what…
Must investigate the real deep source starting with family, friends, religion, phone, computer networking, school, teachers, hate generates from pure lock of real education
Authorities must bring this to the surface asap and take full responsibility to uncover the source and bring it to the public
Someone knows something at that school. if their administration doesn’t find who did this then legal proceedings and substantial compensation for failing to protect a child in their care will,
you can be sure, focus their minds to find the mamzer that did that.
I’m sick to my stomach. Being a special needs parent myself, it’s a scary reminder of how vulnerable our kids are and how it’s so scary not to know what’s really always going on. School and caregivers should be safe for us. We shouldn’t have to worry all the time while they’re with someone who should be having their best interests and safety in mind. My love to this family, Hashem should give you strength.
Does that mean you have special needs yourself or a parent of a child with special needs?
Not poking or anything but just be clear…
My heart goes out to the family & the boy who had this unfortunate mistreatment!! MOSHIACH NOW, HOW MUCH LONGER MUST WE WAIT?
The policy not allowing for cameras in the building, together with this incident are both huge indicators of the unsafe and dangerous conditions of this particular environment. I am so happy to hear that he is no longer at the school!
Our most vulnerable population of special needs is often targets of bullying.
This can NOT be tolerated one iota
We must stand with this family and not be silent.
The trauma inflicted is grave.
How can this wrong be “righted”? Compensation?
The aide claims that “nothing happened”???!!! Really?
My heart goes out to the boy and his family!!
If the Shadow says that nothing happened, perhaps the shadow should be a suspect as the perpetrator.
The shadow has to be responsible to answer up.
May G-d watch over and protect us all and especially our vulnerable children
This is so so awful. Sending love to the family and Davening for them. We need change this minute.
Whoever did this doesn’t even deserve to die. They need to be beat and tortured physically and mentally until they are submitted to a lifetime of endless suffering.
Kein Yechi Rotzon
That this was a terrible act that cannot go unpunished.
Yet, your comment is extremely childish.
I hope this youngster gets full justice for what was done to him. This is so awful.
How did this happen and the shadow didn’t see anything? Isn’t the shadow supposed to be around the student at all times in school? It does take time to hold a person down and engrave something in flesh, This shadow is incompetent or worse a culprit/ accomplice
In a safe setting, show the child pictures (or line up) of every student/person in the school so he can identify those responsible. Then let the full weight of the law punish them.
The shadow should be the first to be examined and looked into thoroughly! Not possible that he/she has no clue what happened. Secondly everyone else should be questioned.
Why don’t they try find the fingerprint of the person?
either the shadow is the culprit, or an accomplice, or an incompetent or at the very least a do-nothing who himself needs a shadow. about using fingerprints, fingerprints leave no marks on soft surfaces such as skin and clothing, so you could not use such technology to track anyone down. merely finding fingerprints on hard items belonging to this child would obviously be of no help since any person in the building could leave such fingerprints, staff and students alike. there’s no lack of anti-semites who are getting away with murder these days.i’ll bet that if this were scratched into… Read more »
My son is also a 17 year old special needs boy, and this story stabs directly into my heart!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not send your precious Neshama back to this school, no matter what this school and administration (and the shadow’s company) may promise you, no matter what difficulties you may have by keeping him home, just keep him at home. I cannot even begin to think of the trauma your son was made to endure, and clearly to me this would not have been the first incident, though it may have been the first outrageous incident. To me,… Read more »
Talk about overprotective…
But I get you mate. I get it
It looks more like a 4 than a swastika. Its entirely possible (if not more likely) that this an accidental scratch that the kid could have picked up anywhere. If the “full time shadow” did not see someone scratching the kid, plus the fact that this is not really a swastika, makes me think it was an accidental scratch and the parents are overreacting. And now the news is making a story out of nothing.
Regardless of any statement by ccsd, Ed W Clark high school principal kelly larnerd attempted to cover this up, and instructed her teachers to do the same. This is her standard operating procedure.
Ad Mosei! We need Moshiach Now!
Regarding this incident, the only thing I can say is Ad Mosei.
Every jewish child belongs in a jewish school.
Actually, what we need to do is stop, pretending that the other side of the conservative party are a bunch of antisemites and as difficult as it is stop listening to conservative radio because they are the ones that are empowering these people. Ever since Trump was elected with the help of the from community, it’s been escalating hate for every minority Jews included.
Even with Jews so small a minority in the US, the hate is so vicious. We know how this story ends.
Has there been any update on this story?
