The Chabad shluchim from Athens stepped up to help 125 young people on Israel volunteer trips celebrate Purim.
The trip participants, from six countries, were scheduled to return to their home countries yesterday, but due to the war, they were unable to leave.
They managed to get over Israel’s border to Taba Airport, in Egypt. After lengthy delays, with little food, no Wifi, and severely understaffed airline personnel, they finally boarded a flight to Athens, Greece, in time for Purim.
Among the groups is a volunteer trip led by Rabbi Dov Oliver, director of Hillel of Rockland, an affiliate of Chabad on Campus.
Rabbi Mendel Hendel from Chabad of Athens read Megillah in the hotel lobby where the volunteers were staying until they could get flights home.
The groups include Mayanot, Destination Israel, Tailor Made, Taglit France, Taglit Uruguay, and Taglit Argentina.
