Many parents in our community feel overwhelmed raising a sensitive or “complex” child. Frequent meltdowns, impulsivity, sibling conflict, and daily struggles can leave even the most devoted parents drained and second-guessing themselves.
A new six-week online course is helping families regain confidence, connection, and a sense of calm, and even discover joy in the process.
Finding Joy in Parenting Your Complex Kid was developed by respected rabbi and teacher Rabbi Shais Taub and clinical psychologist Dr. Ilyssa Bass. Rabbi Taub brings Chassidic insight and years of experience guiding parents. Dr. Bass brings an expertise in offering practical tools informed by both her professional work and her personal journey raising a complex child.
The program helps parents better understand their child’s inner world, respond with greater patience, and parent “outside the box” in a way that nurtures each child’s unique strengths. Participants learn how to move from constant frustration and self-doubt toward clarity, confidence, and—true to the course’s name—real joy in their parenting.
The course runs for six consecutive Tuesdays, April 28 through June 2, from 1:30–3:00 pm Eastern Time. Couples are welcome. Additional features include separate men’s and women’s Q&A, support for those watching recordings, and a private, confidential online forum for mothers. All sessions are recorded and available with lifetime access.
Cost is $597 one time, or three payments of $215. The last time this course was offered was over a year ago, and it may not be offered again.
One participant from the previous group shared: “For the first time I feel clarity and confidence. I’m no longer constantly second-guessing myself.” Another said: “I’m more patient and finally have a plan that works.”
Topics covered include: finding meaning in the challenge of raising a complex child; understanding how these children experience the world; rethinking traditional parenting approaches; knowing when to help and when to step back; identifying and developing each child’s strengths; and navigating family, school, and community dynamics.

I took this last time a year ago and may even take it again. It was encouraging to see so many other people in the same boat. I have taken other courses to help us with our complex kid but this one was different. It was much deeper than anything else I have taken part in. I especially appreciated the combination of the spiritual and the clinical.
