The big storm of the Seventh Candle of Chanukah did not stop, in any form, the World’s Largest Chanukah Menorah from being lit on Fifth Avenue near the Plaza Hotel. The special guest was Gilad Erdan, Ambassador of Israel to the United Nations.
“The storm and the snow only make our resolve stronger,” said Rabbi Shmuel M. Butman, Director, Lubavitch Youth Organization.
From the “Menorah Heights,” Rabbi Butman introduced Ambassador Erdan as the Permanent Representative of Israel to the United Nations and next Ambassador of Israel to the United States “a position that was not held by one person simultaneously since the days of Abba Eban.”
Ambassador Erdan thanked Rabbi Butman and said: “I know the great work of Chabad in Israel and all over the world.” Concerning his new position at the United Nations, Ambassador Erdan said: “I know that I’m going into a place of darkness, but I’m confident as a little light pushes away a lot of the darkness,” a reference to what the Rebbe said to his predecessor Binyamin Netanyahu.
On the Monday evening of Chanukah New York State Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul visited the World’s Largest Chanukah Menorah. Standing at the base of the Menorah, Lieutenant Governor Hochul said: “I would like to wish the Jewish community a Happy Chanukah and tell the Jewish community that we sensitive to their needs.”
The World’s Largest Menorah was covered extensively by the media who brought the World’s Largest Menorah into the homes of hundreds of millions of homes throughout the world.
