When students of Campus Chomesh, the large complex of Associated Beth Rivkah Schools in Crown Heights, will look out the back window, they will be seeing a sign of Lubavitch’s growth.
A total of 9 lots were purchased Thursday for the school by hedge fund manager and major Chabad philanthropist David Slager.
The houses at the addresses 479A until 495 E New York Avenue, corner Brooklyn Avenue, were bought for an estimated $2 million, COLlive.com has learned.
As the flagship institution for Chabad girls, this will be another property in Brooklyn serving over 2000 students, ranging from preschool through the post-high school graduate program.
Rabbi Avraham Shemtov, Chairman of the board of Beth Rivkah, confirmed the news of the addition.
He told COLlive.com Friday: “This is phase two to the massive campus which was inaugurated in the presence of our dear Rebbe zy”a in 5748 as a memorial to the Rebbetzin zy”a.”
Rabbi Shemtov, who is also Chairman of the umbrella Agudas Chassidei Chabad international, added that the initial contact with Slager “resulted in his immediate support for the present and an ambitious pledge for the future.”
Details of the plans for the property, adjacent to the backyard of Beth Rivkah, will be announced in the near future.
A copy of the title and a full report was brought to the Ohel that evening by Rabbi Shemtov.
Whenever we do something we think is the right thing, we sometimes wonder how much the Rebbe would have naches.
Not here – the Rebbe started this project with his own PERSONAL funds which he came himself to give at the groundbreaking at the Rebbetzin’s shloishim. I remember, I was there!
To # 11: May your dreams and hopes be fullfilled very soon!
This is the fulfillment of what the Rebbe wanted from the wealthy–this is a chossid, and may we all follow his example, each in our own way.
This Mr. Slager has awesome instincts. How did he know how to choose this important and visionary project?
Thousands of kinderlach will have a better facility now.
Rabbi Shemtov just doesnt stop. Happy he has formed a partnership with this giant of tzedaka and chesed.
Hopefully we see even greater things from them!
A parent
More power to him! & those like him
we should iy”h give him nachas by having a good enriching program with teachers who have good attitudes and are determined to teach as the Rebbe wants. Thankyou, Slagers, we do hope we do our best with what you did for us.
Teaching in Beis Rivkah for many years and in Campus Chomesh from when it opened, we will now have room for our ever growing classes!
Thank You Mr. & Mrs. Slager and Thank You Rabbi Shemtov for all you do.
I’m working hard, hope one day to be able to help others like the Slager family.
I”m really jealous…
The Slager family and all involved should be blessed with health, happiness, and continued wealth to be able to continue this holy work!
Mr. & Mrs. Slager, thank you so much for your broad vision of our girls. Being the mother of three girls who are students of Bais Rivkah, and more coming, this is truly great news!!
A Shlucha
Kol Hakovod Rabbi Shemtov and Mr. and Mrs. Slager!! You have been blessed to have the unique vision to see that the anchor of Chabad Lubavitch, Shlichus, Chassidus, Mivtzoim and everything the Rebbe wanted, is Bnos Chabad. The Rebbe is the only Manhig Yisrael (besides Moshe Rabeinu) that spent time to farbreng and address the Jewish women and girls.
It is refreshing to see such visionaries in our generation!!
we live a few houses down and ours is from the 1940’s
He’s a true Chossid!
What a special Neshama this man has. What a Z’chus that he has to help the Rebbe’s Mosad.
Kol Hakavod!!!!!!!!!!!!!
go bres we rock!!
I suspect 19th Century. Anyone know? What I DO know is that that area is older than central Crown Heights. It’s officially in East Flatbush.
thank you very much 🙂
