Shmira is advising the community that there is a protest event planned for tomorrow, Tuesday, (August 19) near Utica Ave and President Street in Crown Heights.
The protest flyer states it is in memory of Gavin Cato, a 7 year old boy who was killed in a tragic car accident, which led to the Crown Heights pogroms and violence against the Crown Heights Jewish community in 1991.
“We are in constant contact with the NYPD and they are fully aware of this event.
The NYPD and CH Shmira will have extra patrols out during this time,” Shmira said.
“We are advising the community to try to avoid the area and if necessary, walk in groups, remain vigilant and avoid interactions.”
In the case of an emergency, do not hesitate to call Shmira at 718-221-0303 and 911, 24/7.

Apparently, one of the girl victims (or non-victim) is ex-Chabad and is helping the other girl sue Chabad headquarters (based on Break Through News). Is there a way that our community leaders can sue other community leaders for disruptive protests? For example, to allow their members to block traffic, damage property, and or incite violence.

I live on that block and we must have adequate protection , not just police patrolling the streets. This needs to be controlled up front, not just reacting, responding after the fact.
