Expecting a modest gathering of friends and family, Chabad Rabbi Moshe Bryski came home to a grand fiftieth birthday party that featured an open bar, black-and-white dessert spread, chocolate fondue fountain, and 400 ebullient guests.
Arranged by his children, the cocktail birthday party took place in Rabbi Bryski’s Agoura Hills home. Rochel Laber, Rabbi Bryski’s oldest daughter said that the opportunity to host Chabad-affiliated event outside of the Chabad venue was important. “This community is so used to going to large events at Chabad. Many have been to our home for Shabbos and Yomim Tovim meals but never so many at one time and in such a fun and casual way. So many people from different aspects of my father’s work got to meet each other for the first time, and many new friendships were developed.”
Among the attendees was Mayor of Agoura Denis Weber and radio talk show host Dennis Prager.
Rabbi Bryski’s children all gave a rousing toast during the party, but the emotional climax came when the floor was opened up to other guests. One speech in particular stood out. A man spoke of his struggle with his daughter’s invasive cancer, and stated outright that he would not have made it through without the support of Rabbi Bryski and Chabad. He shared that his daughter’s last chemotherapy treatment took place days before Rabbi Bryski’s birthday.
Rabbi Bryski’s impact on the Jewish community is felt not only in Agoura Hills but in the greater city of Los Angeles. His devotion and selflessness is admired by his peers, associates, students, children, and everyone who crosses his path. A stunning fiftieth birthday party was not expected, but certainly deserved.

These pictures are wonderful. When I came to Agoura Hills from Denver for my brother’s wedding in Elul 5771, Rabbi Bryski had me in his home for a leil-Shabbos seuda. I was so taken by his warmth, divrei Torah, stories, and singing by the table. I am thankful for his kindness. Happy birthday to a great man and shliach.
